Ice Cream Social, Family Game Day Sunday in Warda

An Ice Cream Social/Family Game Day will be held Sunday Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. at the church picnic grounds in Warda. This will be an afternoon of games, fun and lots of laughs. Bring your favorite board games or dominos or just show up and play.

There will be an Ice Cream Freeze Off – a homemade ice cream competition. Get those ice cream machines geared up for your chance to win “The Golden Scoop” and major bragging rights. There will be plenty of Blue Bell Ice Cream with toppings and a “kara-Joke-e” contest for corny jokes.

36th Annual Wendish Fest 

The 36th Annual Wendish Fest at Serbin will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22. Church service is at 8:30 a.m. and a German Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Church tours will be offered at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The day will offer lots of Wendish history, heritage, culture, and family activities at the St. Paul Picnic Grounds in Serbin.

Tickets for the traditional Wendish noon meal will go on sale at 10:30 a.m. that day. Adults are $15, children $6. To-go and drive through meals begin at 9:30 a.m. and are $15.

The joy of polka music will be shared throughout the day by the Jodie Mikula Orchestra and students of St. Paul Lutheran School will present Ptaci Kwas (Bird Wedding).

The Texas Wendish Heritage Museum Complex will feature Wendish folkways, demonstrations and exhibits, a German Christmas Market and the traditional decorated Wendish Easter Egg demonstrations and sales. Research and genealogy assistance will be available. Silent auction is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and the Wendish Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

There will be a coffee cake bake-off, scholarship announcements, stick horse races, coloring contest, washer pitching and cross cut saw demonstration.

FLHS Octoberfest 

Faith Lutheran High School will have their annual Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 26. The “Battle of the Vines” and “Battle of the Brew” are back. Plan your brews now. There will be a traditional German meal, domino tournament, auction, cornhole tournament, music, kids games, fellowship and lots of fun.

Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda continues their weekly study at 6:30 p.m. in the family room. This is a study on 1st and 2nd Kings. Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served, there is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.

Sewing Circle 

The Sewing Circle meets every Thursday in the old parish hall at the Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m.-noon. They average making 80-100 quilts a year and no experience is necessary to join this fun group. Everyone is welcome.

Food Pantry Donation Box There is an AMEN Food Pantry donation box in the hallway of the church, donations are always appreciated.

Recycle Trailer 

The recycle trailer is located at the Warda Storage Units. If you have aluminum cans, there is a large wire basket at the church picnic grounds. The sale of the cans benefits Trail Life Activities.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

The midweek morning Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
