Herb Society Meets In Brenham

The Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America met on Sept. 14, at the Brenham Presbyterian Church, 900 South Jackson Street, Brenham.

Robert Martinez of the Brazos Valley Master Gardeners spoke and showed slides about Texas Heirloom Bulbs. He brought bulbs for sale as well.

Guest speaker for October is Lisa Whittlesey, Senior Extension Program Specialist, International Junior Master Gardener Coordinator, and member of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service-Horticulture. Ms. Whittlesey is the author or co-author of nine award-winning youth environmental curricula; her horticulture expertise has been featured in the popular press, at national conferences, and in other media outlets. She is currently collaborating on multiple grant projects focused on the impact of extension programs on youth academic achievement, health, and nutrition. Ms. Whittlesey’s topic for the Pioneer Unit is “Getting Children Outside and in the Garden.”

The October meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Brenham Presbyterian Church. A “Meet and Greet” will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the program at 10 a.m. followed by a brief meeting and a potluck luncheon. All interested persons are invited to attend.
