Winedale

The next Winedale Zoom Talk is “The Great Storm of 1900: The Rise and Destruction of Nineteenth-Century Galveston”. On Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 12 p.m., award-winning historian Andrew Torget will discuss the improbable rise of Galveston from an abandoned sandbar in 1836 to its emergence as the most important port city in the American Southwest by 1895. Then, in 1900, the most violent hurricane in American history destroyed Galveston, obliterating the city like a modernday Atlantis and remaking both Texas and the American Southwest once more. E-mail tricia.blakistone@austin.utexas. edu for a link to this zoom talk.

Saturday, Jan. 18 the Chamber Music Trio returns to Festival Hill with Chavdar Parashkevov on violin, Louis-Marie Fardet on cello, and Viktor Valkov on piano. Preconcert lunch is available with reservations.

Mark your calendars for future events including the Valentine’s Concert on Feb. 8, and the 30th Annual Herbal Forum & Plant Sale, opening March 14. Tickets and information can be found at festivalhill. org.
