Gumbo Cookoff Saturday in Round Top

A Gumbo Cookoff is set to take place at The Stone Cellar Saturday, Feb. 24 beginning at 12 p.m. Cookers will compete in two categories: Traditional Gumbo and Specialty Gumbo. Winners will receive cash prizes. Following the cookoff, Brown Sugar will take the stage in the Dancehall. On Sunday, Henry Williams will be playing music from 5-8 p.m.
Food Drive
This is the last day to donate food for The Fayette County Texas Exes food drive supporting AMEN Food Pantry. Drop your donations off at Round Top Brewing & Kitchen or Round Top Real Estate.
Winedale
The Winedale quilt exhibit “Citizen Stitching: Political Quilts in the Winedale Quilt Collection” displays examples of how some quilters have expressed party affiliations and support for candidates with both original and well-known patterns throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Round Top Family Library The library has tons of wonderful opportunities for kids during the week including story time, Junior Master Gardeners, art class, jazz dance class, chess club, and Taekwondo. RTC-ISD
Monday, Feb. 26 there will be a public hearing of the Texas Academic Performance Reports at 6 p.m., followed by a school board meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Round Top Rifle Hall
The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Hamburger Socials are back on the schedule. The first, second, and third Mondays of each month, the Hall is open from 5:30-8 p.m. for hamburgers, “The Rooster,” hotdogs, or chilidogs, along with fries or onion rings. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the Round Top Rifle Association.
Fish Fry
The annual all-you-can-eat fish fry at the Rifle Hall will be Friday, March 8 from 5:308 p.m. Plates are $15. Tickets are available at Round Top Mercantile and Round Top State Bank. Remaining tickets will be available at the door but may sell out – get yours early. Dine-in or take-out.
Church News
The Ash Wednesday service at St. Paul in Shelby will be Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. There will be a 7 p.m. service at Bethlehem Lutheran. The first, third, and fifth Wednesday Lenten Meals and services will be held at Shelby. The second, and fourth Wednesdays will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Festival Hill
The Fayette County Texas Exes Annual Scholarship Fundraiser will be Saturday, March 2 from 11:30 a.m.3 p.m. at Festival Hill. This event raises money to provide scholarships for Fayette County high school graduates planning to attend the University of Texas at Austin. The Fayette County Chapter of the Texas Exes invites everyone to come out for a great afternoon! There will be a meal, speaker, Kelly Brooks, an auction, and a tour of Round Top Festival Institute. Tickets are $50 per person and include admission, the fried chicken dinner, and beverages. This is a family-friendly event. Children 12 and under are free.
