Gas Wars Continue

The gas war in Schulenburg continued this week with the price of unleaded dropping below $3.50 a gallon at some locations. The battle broke out two weeks ago when the new Texan Convenience Store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10.

The Texan’s nearby competitors, The Hitching Post Valero Station and the Pilot Truck Stop, struggled to keep up with the new store’s low fuel prices. But they took to the offensive this week. On Wednesday, The Hitching Post dropped to $3.42 a gallon for unleaded. The Pilot went down as far as $3.45 for a brief time on Wednesday morning.

The Texan, meanwhile, raised its price of unleaded to $3.69 on Wednesday (they were down to $3.45 on Tuesday).

An armistice could be on the horizon, however. After The Texan raised its price on Wednesday, Pilot matched it at $3.69 a gallon and Hitching Post went up to $3.62.
