    Fundraising Efforts Continue for Carmine Hall

The Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, also known as the Carmine Hall, will be conducting a monthly gun and gift card drawing on the third Tuesday of each month from September 2023 through August 2024. Three tickets will be drawn each month-two for guns and one for a $500 gift card. JW’s Steakhouse is underwriting one of the $500 gift cards. Round Top Real Estate will also give one of the $500 gift cards.

They are working to raise some funds for maintenance and future major renovation of the historic dance hall. Tickets are $100 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. Winning tickets each month will be placed back in for future drawings. You must be 18 or older to win a long gun and 21 or older to win a pistol. All winners must be in compliance with Federal Firearms Regulations. In the event all tickets are not sold, Carmine Hall reserves the right to return all monies collected. Heritage Committee

The Heritage Committee of the Carmine Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. in the museum.

The topic for discussion will be “Egg Production and Sales in the Carmine Area.” Resource persons will be available to give information and to answer questions.

RT-C School News

RT-C varsity volleyball team defeated Weimar in four sets on Aug. 22.

On Sept. 5, JV and varsity host Mumford with the first game at 4:30 p.m. They host Schulenburg on Sept. 8 at 4:30 p,m.

JV team will participate in the La Grange Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 9.

JV boys, JV girls, varsity boys and varsity girls will run in the Moulton Invitational Cross Country Meet on Sept. 9.

Carmine VFD

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department drill night will be held on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.

A burn ban continues to be in effect for Fayette County. Please pray for rain.

The department reminds members to check the batteries in their smoke detectors.

A Piece of Carmine History

Norma Bauer was a piano teacher possibly in the later 1800s until the 1940s.

Vera Mohr gave piano lessons in her home in the 1990s.

Allison Crowson and later Cheryl Amelang taught piano at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in the early 2000s.

Marth Sheet Metal and Roofing was owned by Ralph “Butch” Marth from 1983 until 2011.

Randy and Melba Zingelmann were the owners of Zingelmann Steel Construction from June 11, 1978 until 2018. The company built steel buildings such as houses, barns, businesses, auction barns and etc.

Bruce Noak began his custom welding business in 1981. At one time he built big hay barns, pens, entrances, gates, etc. Now he mainly works on fabricating smaller projects such BBQ pits, does repairs on trailers, changes designs on gates and so forth.

SLS Fabricating is located at 204 Carmine Lane. He specializes is custom steel fabrication.

Gravel and Dirt Hauling was provided by Kermit Pohl with an estimated date being the 1940’s to possibly the 1960’s.

Lloyd Zwernemann Sand and Gravel was hauling these products from the early 1950s until the later 1990s. His son Ronnie Zwernemann began working with him in 1978 and then took over as RZ Graveling Hauling in 1998. He continues in the business.

Monty Mayer started hauling gravel and dirt in the mid 1980’s. His brother Clayton Mayer hauled with him in the 1990’s. He took a break and then started again in 2007 and continues to this day.

Ilo A. Ullrich also hauled gravel possibly in the 1960s.

Roger Chambers opened a Market Realty location in Carmine in the Hoppe Store Building at 108 Thigpen in possibly the 2000s.

Heather Kaspar started Buck-Up Auctions in 2011 and Buck Up Realty in 2014. She first worked from her house and then in 2018 moved the business to 115 Thigpen in Carmine.

Jack Bridie owned a lapidary shop in the 1970s. He had a rock polishing machine and created jewelry with these rocks. It was located in a former small building just north of 453 Centennial.

Diane Tovey owns The Glass Anvil Art Foundry, where she creates beautiful stained-glass creations. She started the business in 2000 in Pasadena and opened in Carmine in 2006. It is located at 271 Thigpen.

Bingo for Seniors

Bingo for Seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) is held at the Ledbetter Community Center on the second Sunday of the month. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.

This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment.

The next date is Sept. 10.

MLLC News

Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Confirmation class is Wednesday from 4:15-6:15 p.m. This will be the first session of the fall classes.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost is at 10 a.m. It is also Sunday School Promotion Sunday. Praise Team leads hymns with guitars and the Noisy Offering will be collected. Grandparents Day will be observed. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Quilting for Lutheran World Relief and Camp For All is Monday at 9 a.m.

Stewardship Committee meets Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Meals on Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250AugsburgAve. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and is for pick-up only until 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
