Flag Day Proclaimed in La Grange

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day in La Grange. KJZT Family Life Society No. 31 accepted the proclamation. National Flag Day honors the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our national symbol by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. In 1885, an official Flag Day to commemorate this was suggested by a Wisconsin teacher, but it was not until 1916 that President Woodrow Wilson officially decreed June 14 to be a day to celebrate Old Glory.

Members of KJZT Family Life, a non-profit organization that combines volunteerism and business, contribute to their hometowns and churches by participating in parish and community work projects and fundraisers to help those in need. Societies have long proclaimed their patriotism by honoring National Flag Day on June 14.
