The annual fish fry will be held at the Rifle Hall Friday, March 3. Stay tuned for more information.

The next Round Top Rifle Hall Monday Night Hamburger Social it set for March 6. The social takes place the first thru third Mondays of each month. The Hall opens at 5:30 p.m., and the order window is open from 6-8 p.m. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the RTRA.

Local Events

It’s Open Mic Night. Head over to Busted Oaks Cellars in Round Top on Friday, March 3 from 6-9 p.m. Bring your instrument or just your voice – a PA system and microphone will be provided.

Busted Oaks will be closed Saturday, March 4 for a private event. The winery will be back open Sunday, March 5. Enjoy music by Les Cousins from 2-5 p.m.

Next weekend, Jack & Hayden will perform Friday, March 10 from 6-9 p.m., Frank Martin Gilligan on Saturday, March 11 from 3-6 p.m., and Danielle Reich Sunday, March 12 from 2-5 p.m. Bingo Night is Thursday, March 16 from 6-8 p.m.

The Black Cat Trio will perform at The Stone Cellar Friday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Enjoy the full band Saturday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

Come out for a St. Patrick’s Day Party at Vintage Hideaway on Friday, March 17. Kick-off the Spring Show with a delicious plate of crawfish by Bo’s Boil-N-Geoux.

Round Top-Carmine ISD

The annual RT-C Alumni Baseball Game is set for Saturday, March 4. Come out and enjoy the game and grab a hamburger.

This year’s Spring Break is right around the corner. Students are out Monday, March 13-Friday, March 17.

Round Top Family Library The Round Top Family Library is open Monday from 1:30-5:30 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Yoga is Mondays at 5 p.m., Art After School is Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m., Chess Club is Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and Kids Garden is Thursdays at 4 p.m.

Weekly Preschool story time for 3 and 4-year-old children takes places Wednesdays from 10:15-11 a.m. Preschoolers will hear an age-appropriate book and participate in activities. The parent or guardian must be present.

RTFL is starting a family game night to be held every second Saturday of the month from 2-5 p.m. Come to the Historic Rummel Haus for board games and lots of fun. Parent or guardian must be present. A light snack and water will be servied.

RTFL and FYI are pleased to announce that local dancer Libby Lovejoy is donating part of her treasured collection of dance books to the library. All are welcome to join in a reception on Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m. to meet Libby who will present her books and answer questions. Refreshments will be served.

RTFL FYI presents a porch concert with Mike Blakely Friday, March 17 from 6:30-9 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket, snacks and drinks. Come enjoy a music fest under the stars. Don’t forget to wear your green.

Historical Society

The RTAHS museum has free admission every second Saturday of the month from 1-4 p.m. Take the opportunity to view three historical homes and a historical church. Private tours are welcome.

Festival Hill

James Dick, Founder and Artistic Director of Round Top Festival Institute will perform on the Festival Concert Hall State Saturday, March 11 at 3 p.m. The performance will include works by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin. Adult tickets are $40, students are $10. Tickets will be sold at the door.

The 28th Annual Herbal Forum and Plant Sale at Festival Hill is coming up. This year’s forum will focus on parsley and will include a display on ginger. The event will include stage demos and a garden lunch. Speaker presentations will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m. After lunch, participants will reconvene in the auditorium for displays and interactions with the day’s speakers. The $80 registration fee includes the garden lunch. The plant sale is March 17 and 18, and the Herbal Forum is on March 18. The sale is open to the public and will be held at 248 Jaster Rd in Round Top.

Winedale Historic Site

Winedale’s annual quilt exhibit “Places and Names: Community-made Quilts in the Winedale Quilt Collection” continues Friday, March 3 and Saturday March 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. This display highlights the collective work of quilt guilds, family and friend networks, communities of shared interests, culture, or place, and quilting groups that commune regularly or once in a lifetime. Hermann Sons

President Linda Mattocks opened the Feb. meeting at the American Legion Hall near Round Top on Feb. 23 with the Pledge of allegiance to the Flag. The January meeting was cancelled due to weather. Ian Brassett, Camp Director of Hermann Sons Life Camp presented camp information. 15 and 16-year old students can be C.I.T’s and volunteers are welcome to help clean the camp on Apr. 22. The camp has been upgraded to include shade structures over the boy’s pool and baseball field, and Pickle Ball courts. This adds to the over 20 activities available. Spring Break will be a Grief Support camp with 52 children already enrolled. This year campers will have the opportunity to sign up for two weeks if space is available.

At present, Ian is looking for nurses, paramedics, E.M.T.’s, and C.A.N. If interested, call (830) 995-3223.

David Noak, Rutersville board member, shared that members can pay $100 for a two-bedroom overnight stay. Group rent for reunions or retreats at Hilltop Camp are also available.

The golf tournament for scholarships will be in San Antonio on Apr. 8.

Linda Mattocks, agent, received a round of applause as the names of nine new members were read.

A monetary donation will be sent to the RT-C Education Foundation.

A moment of silent prayer was held for Vernell Noak, who passed away Jan. 28. A monetary donation in her memory will be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top.

Due to the SpringAntiques Show, there will not be a meeting in March. Happy Birthday was sung to Jeanette Hancock and Schylar Noak, and Linda Mattocks, who will celebrate her birthday in March.

Door prize winners were Ted Stardig and Betty Porter.

Attendance prizes were won by Linda Mattocks, Jocie Braun, Lila Garlin, Laura Brugger, Bob Porter, Floyd Braun, Jeanette Hancock, Myrt Meinkowsky, Dwight Nittsche and Jeanette Schoenst.

The meeting was adjourned for refreshments with a hot dog supper with all the trimmings, salad, beans and desserts.

The next meeting will be Apr. 27. Supper will be served. Members may bring a side dish or dessert.

Church News

St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Warrenton holds a monthly service at 8 a.m. for the intentions left on the altar. This month’s Mass was held Feb. 28. View the bulletin online at stjohnfayetteville.com for more information.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds services with Pastor John David Nedbalek Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school is the first Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Ruth Circle is the first Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Sewing Circle is the second Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby holds worship service at 8 a.m., followed by fellowship, coffee and Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Game Day is held the first and third Wednesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Bring a snack, board game, dominoes, etc. Quilting meets the third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. Noisy Offering is the third Sunday of each month.

The Wednesday Lenten services will alternate between St. Paul in Shelby and BLC. A meal is served at 6 p.m. and the service begins at 7 p.m. The Mar. 8 service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran.

St. Cecilia’s Round Top Episcopal Church holds services with Father Bill Miller Sundays at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. in the historic Haw Creek Chapel in Henkel Square.

Saturday, Mar. 4 is the first Round Top Singer/Songwriter Showcase. This outdoor concert features three extraordinary singer/songwriters from Louisiana and Texas. The event begins at 5:45 p.m.

Sunday, Mar. 5 Saint Cecilia’s celebrates the birthday of Townes Van Zandt. Beginning at 10:45 a.m. there will be an inspiring hour of worship and song. Bring a friend and a chair for this outdoor celebration. Stick around to enjoy coffee, refreshments and conversation.
