Festival Hill Valentine’s Concert Saturday Feb. 8

The annual Valentine’s Concert and Bybee Library Reception in the Festival Concert Hall will be Saturday, Feb. 8. James Dick will perform a piano recital on Saturday, March 8. The 30th Annual Herbal Forum & Plant Sale will open Friday, March 14. Robert Earl Keen will perform in the Festival Concert Hall Friday, April 11.

Small School, Big Hearts The Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation presents their annual “Small School, Big Hearts” celebration this Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Enjoy a wonderful dinner of brisket, sausage, and all the trimmings. Tickets are $20 for a plate, either dine-in or to-go. You can also get a head-start on supporting the school by bidding online in the silent auction. Purchase your tickets and place your bids at rtceducationfoundation. org.

Round Top Family Library The library has several great class options throughout the week. Sewing and yoga classes are held each Monday, yoga and preschool story-time are on Wednesdays, Thursdays are Taekwondo classes, and Family Game Day is held every second Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information on these classes, or to register, visit ilovetoread.org, or call the library at (979) 249-2700.

Area Historical Society The RTAHS is beginning to collect items for the annual garage sale in February. If you have items you would like to donate, please call (281) 6108274. Items may be dropped off any Sunday or Monday, or if you have several items to donate, a pickup may be coordinated. Tax credit receipts will be given upon delivery.

Round Top Town Council Regular Council Meetings are the second Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. Meetings are held at the Town Hall (100 Main Street) unless otherwise posted. Agendas are posted on townofroundtoptexas.org at least 72 hours prior to the meeting time. Public posting site is on the message board outside the Town Office, located at 202 North Live Oak Street.

Hermann Sons Lodge 151 Thursday Jan. 23 the Hermann Sons Life members braved the cold for their monthly meeting, bringing together almost all of the regular attendees, plus a few visitors. President Linda Mattocks called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, followed by the announcement that the two missing couples were absent due to health issues.

There will not be meetings in March and October due to the antique shows at the American Legion Hall.

Linda’s report included one new member, and one member’s transfer to the Rutersville Lodge. Forms for Fraternal Agent of the year were available. Annuities are still paying 5% with a guarantee of 2.9%. Members are allowed two annuities. The Christmas party was a huge success and well attended.

Melanie Rauch, community coordinator, had a list of Christmas and get-well cards that were sent. The RT-C Small School, Big Heart fundraiser will be held Feb. 1. They will send the normal donation. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support this event.

Happy birthday was sung to those celebrating birthdays in January, which included Barton Garlin, turning 80 on Jan. 28, Jeanette Hancock on Jan. 25, and David Rauch on Jan. 31. Lila Garlin, Margie Stardig, Betty Porter, Max Baranowski, and Linda Mattocks each won an attendance prize.

The meeting was adjourned for fellowship, refreshments, and a counter full of delicious food. “Thank you” to the food committee consisting of Linda Mattock, Earl Fenske, Floyd and Jocie Braun, Virgie Hall and Jo Ann and Ray Ullrich. The food committee starting in April will be Margie Stardig, Barton & Lila Garlin, Pearlie and Wayne Wagner, LaVerne Albers and Sedalia Ullrich. The next meeting will be Feb. 27.

Church News 

St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Warrenton holds a monthly Mass the first Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. More information can be found at stjohnfayetteville.com/stmartin.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church meets at 9:30 a.m. St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby services are at 8 a.m. Round Top Church meets at 8:45 a.m. for Bible Study, and the service is held at 10 a.m. St. Cecilia holds service in Haw Creek Chapel at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m.
