Fayetteville Grad Earns Top Baylor Honor

Congratulations to Fayetteville resident Miles Gillette who was named an Outstanding Undergraduate by Baylor University as part of Baylor’s recent Academic Honors Convocation. The celebration is hosted by Baylor’s Honors College and recognizes students who have distinguished themselves in their field of study.

Gillette, a sophomore Applied Music major, worked as the Baylor Men’s Choir and Voces Hominum Choir accompanist. He represented the Baylor piano department in the Semper Pro Musica competition and was awarded a Masterclass with concert pianist Sara Daneshpour.

Locally, he contributes to the music programs of the Shared Lutheran Ministries and First Presbyterian Church. Gillette will be a participant at the Round Top Festival Hill Institute this summer.

Election Results

Official results for the City Council election: Neal Doty has won reelection in Place 1. Kathy Griffith has won the position in Place III and Yvonne McCowen has won reelection in Place V. FISD

Fayetteville ISD is wrapping up the school year. The Field Day for students in Pre-K through Grade 5 is May 18. The last day for students is also May 18. Graduation will be on May 20 at 7 p.m.

KC Event

On Friday night, May 20, the Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus will be serving up a taste of Louisiana with crawfish, live music, draft beer and more at St. John’s Pavilion. Your $40 meal ticket gets you into the event. There are a limited number of tickets. Be sure to call the KC Order Line in advance to get your meal tickets at (979) 249-6003. A few of the $15,000 worth of prizes could be yours if you purchase raffle tickets. Those can be picked up from a KC member, at the Westside store or Orsak’s Café for $10 each.

Gates open for the event at 6:30 p.m. Happy Hour is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Crawfish, potatoes, corn and sausage are being served from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Charles Thibodeaux and the Austin Cajun Aces will entertain all from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

A few of the raffle prizes include an original watercolor by Mary Quiros, a Traeger 780 Pro Pellet Grill, $1,000 gift card from Apple, a Stihl BR-450 Backpack Blower, all kinds of Visa gift cards and pieces from Richard Schmidt Jewelry.
