Fayetteville Gets Millions in Grants; FISD Teachers Also Cashing In

News 

The City of Fayetteville has recently acquired two grants totaling nearly $4 million. A $300K grant was awarded as part of the Resilient Communities Program. A $3.4 million Infrastructure Rehabilitation Grant has been approved and funds are expected this year. The first phase of the sewer aeration construction is completed and the second phase will be completed upon receipt of these funds.

Money for Teachers 

FISD recently rewarded 13 top-performing teachers as part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment Program (TIA). Under the TIA, teachers can earn one of three levels of designation: Recognized, Exemplary, or Master. Four teachers were designated as Master Teachers and were awarded $17,000 for their efforts in their July checks. Six Designated Exemplary Teachers received $9,000. Three were designated as Recognized Teachers and received a little more than $4,000 each.

Bazaar 

St. Mary’s Bazaar was a huge success thanks to lots of dedicated volunteers and staunch community support.

Song Swap 

The acoustic Song Swap at ARTS Gallery is this Sunday from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Mike Stroup and Joey McGee will perform. McGee is a NOLAborn singer-songwriter bringing Americana goodness from the heart of Texas. Tip opportunities are available for the musicians and for support of ARTS. Some beverages are available or BYOB. The admission is free of charge. Join in the fun the first Sunday of every month at the same time to hear a rotation of great musicians.

Columnist Visit 

Joe Holley, Houston Chronicle columnist and author of numerous Texas stories, enlightened the crowd at the Red & White Gallery about a distinctive Fayetteville resident from the 1800s. John Christopher Columbus Hill, just 13 years old, shot 12 soldiers in Mexico’s army. Despite this, Hill nearly became the adoptive son of Mexican general Santa Anna and went onto earn a doctorate in engineering. Parish Feast

Join in all kinds of activities at St. John’s Annual Parish Feast this Sunday. A mass featuring local musicians playing polka music kicks it all off at 10 a.m. A barbecue pork and sausage dinner will be served at 10:30 a.m. You can go through a drive-through line and pick up plates to go.

Local musicians will provide live music starting at 11 a.m. under the pavilion. Barbecue and sausage burgers will be sold beginning at 1:30 p.m. A country auction including quilts, antiques, coins and more will be held at 1:30 p.m., bingo begins at 2 p.m. in the hall and kolaches and loads of other sweets will be available throughout the day. Some attractions include children’s games, silent auction, cake wheel, and ice cold refreshments. Church News

St. Paul Lutheran holds services on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Services are recorded every week, rotating among four Shared Lutheran Ministry churches and posted on the Facebook page for the Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County. Services are also featured on KTIM 89.1 Sundays at noon.

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville holds Mass Saturdays at 6 p.m., and Sunday’s at 10 a.m.

St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger holds Mass on Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s at 8 a.m.

Worship services at Fayetteville Brethren are held on the second, third and fourth Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. An adult Bible Study is held before the worship service from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
