Fayetteville City Finances Looking Good
“The City has operated in a fiscally responsible manner,” commented City Councilman Neal Doty. “Most of the General Fund debt for the City has been paid off over the last two years. There is a balance of less than $30,000 scheduled to be paid in the upcoming fiscal year. At some period in 2023, the City will be debt-free. This applies to the General Operating Fund, and not the System Fund. The System Fund is continuously financing system improvements for our water and sewer, so there is still debt there, but it is reasonable and much less than half of the actual cash reserves the City holds for the System Fund. The reduction in debt results in a net tax decrease for all property owners in Fayetteville. The rate has been cut by over 35%, but the actual city taxes will not go down quite that much because the general property values, as appraised by the County, rose on average over 15%. All in all, it results in a tax cut.”
