Fayette County Sheriff Korenek Reports on July Activity

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of July 2023.

Detective Marc Bennett is working numerous cases involving children as victims in Fayette County. Several cases remain under investigation and approximately four cases have charges being filed. Bennett is also investigating two cases in which elderly residents of Fayette County were scammed.

Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of a donkey which went missing in the Muldoon/Cistern area.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher responded to a disturbance in the West Point area involving a knife. After further investigation a male subject was arrested and charged with aggravated assault family/household with a weapon. Meagher also stopped a vehicle in the La Grange area for a traffic violation. The driver was wanted out of Colorado County. The driver was also found to be in possession of narcotics and a loaded handgun. The driver was arrested for the warrant and is now facing additional new charges.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of criminal mischief which occurred in the Ammannsville area. Guentert was notified by TxDOT that a piece of equipment had been struck with a bullet. The case remains open at this time.

Deputy James Ulbig took a report of illegal dumping which occurred in the Warda area. A report was taken and the case remains under investigation at this time.

Deputy Cody Williams was dispatched to a disturbance in which the parties were separated and no charges were filed. MHMR Investigator Jeremy Castleberry followed up with one subject of the disturbance the following day. Williams took a report of a 9mm firearm which was located in the Schulenburg area. A report was completed and the firearm was booked into evidence for safe keeping.

Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a business in the Engle area in reference to a fire. A report was completed for documentation purposes. Meagher responded to a residence near Schulenburg in reference for a disturbance. A male subject who discharged a firearm in the direction of property and persons was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Meagher was dispatched to a report of a stolen trailer but after further investigation, it was learned the trailer was taken by the complainant’s husband and the issue was deemed to be civil. Meagher took a report of an assault that occurred in the Schulenburg area. A report was taken and the case was passed to CID.

Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to a disturbance in the Round Top area. Gonzales arrested one subject for trespassing and possession of marijuana. The following day, Deputies returned to the same location with consent from the property owner, where a small marijuana grow was located. Gonzales also took a report of an unattended death which occurred near La Grange. No foul play was suspected and a report was completed.

Deputy Holly Smith responded to an address near La Grange for a disturbance. Upon arrival it was determined the call was not that of a disturbance, but a theft. Case remains open at this time. Smith also took a report of harassment which was occurring in the Round Top area. Smith later made contact with a subject and issued a criminal trespass warning to the subject that was not wanted on the property.

Deputy Jared Michalec took a report of fraud that occurred in the La Grange area. Information was gathered and a report was completed. The case remains under investigation at this time. Michalec was dispatched to a report of trespassing which occurred in the Ledbetter area. Michalec arrived and placed a subject into custody for Criminal Trespass.

Deputy Seth Nagel stopped a vehicle in the Ellinger area. After further investigation, Nagel located numerous types of narcotics inside of the vehicle. One subject was arrested on numerous drug charges.

Deputy Wesly Arrison took a report of an assault that occurred in the Kirtley area. Arrison took a report of criminal mischief which occurred at a local church. Suspects were identified and arrests were made.

Deputy Mark Pritchard took a report of criminal mischief which occurred in the Mullins Prairie area. The case was forwarded to CID and was later solved. Pritchard also took a theft report which occurred near La Grange. The case was forwarded to CID and was later solved. Pritchard also responded to the Winchester area for a report of an assault. A report was taken and charges were accepted by the County Attorney.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 80 individuals for the month of July. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 6 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
