Fayette County Sheriff Korenek Reports on February Activity

Sheriff’s Report

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of February 2023.

Sgt. Ron Naumann responded to a family disturbance in the Clear Lake Pines subdivision. The family had an argument and continuing issues throughout the entire day which resulted in law enforcement and EMS responding to the residence on three separate incidents. Naumann also took a report of harassment and littering. A suspect was located and was admonished for the activity.

Sgt. Angela Lala reports that a sex offender moved into Fayette County and failed to report to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office per their registration requirements. An investigation was conducted and the suspected party was later arrested.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher stopped a vehicle for displaying a fictitious paper tag. The driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a handgun. The driver was arrested. Meagher also stopped a vehicle near Plum in which two occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession of methamphetamine and were arrested.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of criminal mischief which occurred at a facility near Flatonia. Guentert also responded to the same facility for a runaway juvenile. The juvenile claimed to be suicidal and was taken to a facility for treatment.

Deputy A.J. Gonzales stopped a vehicle near La Grange for a moving violation. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested. Gonzales also impounded an abandoned vehicle in the West Point area.

Deputy Herman Olvera was dispatched to an address near Flatonia for an assault. After further investigation, one male subject was arrested and charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury which was enhanced due to the victim being over the age of 65. Olvera stopped a vehicle on IH-10 for a traffic violation. After further investigation, a handgun was located inside of the vehicle and the weapon was reported to be stolen out of Seguin. Both subjects inside are also convicted felons and are not allowed to possess a firearm. Both subjects were arrested on felony charges.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to a runaway juvenile from a facility near Flatonia. The child was located and was released back to the facility without incident.

Deputy Duane Meagher was dispatched to a residence in reference to a disturbance. Deputies Seth Nagel and Holly Smith responded to assist. The male half of the disturbance cut his own wrist with a broken beer bottle and fled into the woods. Deputies Meagher and Nagel followed a blood trail left by the subject. Deputies were able to locate the male who was hiding under a bridge near a creek. The male was bleeding severely at which point deputies applied a tourniquet to the subjects arm to prevent further bleeding. The male was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Deputy Joe Gonzales transported a subject to a mental health Facility in Georgetown. Upon arrival at the facility, the subject attempted to escape from Gonzales. The subject was subdued very quickly and escorted back to the facility. The subject was then released to the staff without further incident. Deputy Gonzales also made contact with a subject in reference to locating his property that was stolen. The subject advised he found his vehicles which were stolen. The vehicles were removed from the national database and a report was completed.

Deputy Chase Ceder met with a subject in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office in reference to harassment. A report was generated and the case remains under investigation at this time.

Deputy Holly Smith responded to an address in the Ledbetter area for a verbal disturbance. Through further investigation it was determined criminal mischief occurred totaling over seven thousand dollars in damages. The case was forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office where an indictment was obtained for Criminal Mischief . Smith also responded to a property in the Waelder area for a report of shots fired. Contact was made with the caller who reported a white male that was trespassing and fled the scene running towards his neighbor’s property. The male was located and Deputies determined the male needed medical attention. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No charges were filed.

Deputy Jared Michalec arrested a subject on a warrant that was issued out of Fayette County. The subject entered the lobby of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office to turn himself in. Michalec also responded to a verbal disturbance between family members in the Warda area. The situation was resolved and the subjects were separated.

Deputy Seth Nagel responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle near La Grange. The subject admitted to Nagel that there was methamphetamine in the vehicle. Nagel located the methamphetamine and placed the subject into custody. Nagel stopped a vehicle in the Carmine area. Nagel observed a handgun inside of the center console. The driver was a convicted felon was is legally barred from possessing a firearm. The driver was arrested.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 60 individuals for the month of February. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 3 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to being serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
