Fayette Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of September.

Sgt. Ron Naumann responded to a fire on FM 1291 near Ledbetter. Several area fire Departments responded as well as the US Forest Service. The fire was extinguished. Naumann also responded to a large bull stuck in a fence. The bull was cut out of the fence with the owner on scene. The bull was unharmed.

Sgt. Angela Lala received a report of a theft of a gift card box from a party. An investigation was conducted and evidence collected has been sent to the DPS Crime Lab. Case is pending until lab results are received.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher along with Deputies Mark Pritchard and Chase Ceder responded to an address in Ledbetter in reference to a mental health crisis. The caller was having a crisis and threatened to kill law enforcement if they showed up. After a 45 minute standoff, the subject was convinced to exit the residence empty handed at which point Meagher was able to rush the subject and detain her without incident. The subject was transported to the Sheriff’s Office to be evaluated by a MHMR professional. The subject was then taken by Meagher to an Austin area behavioral hospital to receive treatment for mental illness.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of a possible assault which occurred in the Cistern area. After further review and investigation, the case was taken to the Attorney’s Office and no charges were accepted due to no crime being committed. Guentert took a report of property damage which occurred in the Dubina area. The subject who was responsible for the damage was located and had already made a report through their employer.

Deputy Cody Williams stopped a vehicle in the Engle area. After further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested. Williams stopped a vehicle on US 77 near FM 153. After further investigation, one female subject was found to be giving a fictitious name to Williams. The female was also found to be in possession of a large amount of marijuana. The female was arrested on numerous charges.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to an address near La Grange in reference to a mail worker location narcotics inside of a mail box. Contact was made with a resident who ran from Deputy Ulbig on foot. After further investigation the male was arrested for several narcotics charges.

Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a possible sexual assault which occurred in the Schulenburg area.Areport was generated and the case remains suspended at this time until the victim cooperates.

Deputy Joe Gonzales assisted in recovering items which were requested to be seized by a Judge who issued a Writ of Sequestration. Deputies were able to locate the items which were seized and are being held until final judgement is decided. Gonzales also took a report of an assault which occurred the day prior. A report was completed and the case was filed with the County Attorney’s Office.

Deputy Jared Michalec along with La Grange PD responded to an address in La Grange in reference to a domestic disturbance in which the victim texted 911. Officers were able to get the victim out of the residence. Officers entered the residence and located the suspect under a mattress. The subject jumped from under the mattress and began to resist officers. The male was taken into custody by La Grange PD. Michalec also received information on a stolen vehicle which was used in the commission of several robberies in the Austin area. Michalec located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. A pursuit ensued which entered Colorado County. The vehicle was spiked and four subjects were taken into custody on Interstate 10 near the 705 mile marker.

Deputy Seth Nagel responded to a structure fire in the La Grange area. Deputies used fire extinguishers and a water hose to put out the flames. There were no reported injuries.

Deputy Wesly Arrison assisted Smithville PD with a burglary in progress call in their jurisdiction. Arrison was able to recover suspected evidence which was handed over to Smithville PD. Arrison stopped a vehicle in which a passenger was found to be in possession of ecstasy. The passenger is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Deputy Mark Pritchard took a report of a Theft which occurred at a residence near La Grange. The case is closed at this time due to lack of evidence. Pritchard assisted La Grange Police Department Officer Steven Haynie with a theft in progress call which occurred at a local auto parts store. One suspect was arrested and was found to be in possession of the stolen merchandise which was returned to the store.

Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 53 individuals for the month of September. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported four individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
