Fayette County Country Music Club Christmas Opry Dec. 18
The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their Christmas Opry on Monday, Dec. 18 at the KC Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $8.
This month the opry will feature Dennis Stryk, Arthur Bosque, Zach Novak and the Dujka Brothers.
Dennis Stryk of Schulenburg is a lifelong resident of Fayette County who has been intrigued with country music spanning some 70 years. At the age of 15, he started playing in a band locally for weddings, reunions and trail ride gatherings. After a tour in Vietnam in 1968 and ’69, the band started playing the dancehall circuit. In 1973, he became the lead singer for “The Wild West” and in 1976, the band “Wildfire,” playing dancehalls throughout south central Texas, playing the songs of recording artists Ray Price, Merle Haggard, B J Thomas, and Ronnie Milsap. Also in 1973, he became owner and operator of New Bielau Dancehall south of Weimar for 22 years, featuring some of the best country bands in central Texas.
Since 1995, and a few years of singing for weddings, funerals, and memorial and veterans events, he was fortunate enough to become a member of a Christian musical group, “D’Vine Testament”, for the past 12 ½ years. The group has performed for many Christian events, country oprys, etc., and recorded four CDs. Also for the past six years, the Christian group has doubled as a classic country band, “The Wren’s & Friends,” playing many different venues. All in all, you can say “he just loves to sing.”
Arthur Bosque is one of our hometown singers, will be here to sing some Spanish songs and will be doing a tribute to the late and great Freddy Fender.
Zach Novak of La Grange has lived with the challenges of autism, Tourette’s Syndrome, and a seizure disorder for all of his 29 years. Zach discovered his love of music very early in life, teaching himself to play keyboards and piano accordion by ear, resulting in his own unique style. Zach has entertained folks at family reunions, nursing homes, Oktoberfest in La Grange, Ellinger C of C drive through dinners, and a recent highlight was playing with the Dujka Brothers and D’Vine Testament at the Ellinger Holiday Music Show. Zach always enjoys performing for the Fayette County Opry as well. You can expect to have a toe tapping good time when you hear Zach play.
The Dujka Brothers, the duo of John and Mark Dujka, are celebrating their 34th year in the entertainment business. They have appeared at numerous public and private celebrations spreading their excitement for the traditional music that helped build and strengthen Czech and German communities in the state. Their music can be heard on polka radio programs across the nation as well as the Big Joe Polka show on RFD-TV and they have been recognized by the Texas Polka Music Association and 247PolkaHeaven. com for their recordings.
They are proficient on numerous wind and key board instruments as well as guitars and accordions, blending their voices to create an outstanding sound that has helped to make them one of Texas’most popular duos in polka music. They have produced many albums with over 200 tracks. You will be amazed by their versatility and their honesty in delivering the best in Texas polka and waltz music.
The opry is hoping to have a visitor from the North Pole. Santa Claus will take time out of his busy schedule to come and visit the opry. Be sure to be with us on Dec. 18 for the annual Chrismtas Opry.
