Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of October.

Detective Marc Bennett is actively investigating several cases including a theft that occurred in the La Grange area and multiple cases involving child abuse. Bennett also made an arrest in a fraud case which involved a suspect washing checks and cashing them for monetary gain.

Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of a theft at the antique show in which a handgun was stolen from a display case. The case remains under investigation at this time. Naumann also responded to a venue at the antique show in reference to a former employee that had just been terminated returning to the property after hours. The subject was located and was found to be intoxicated. The male subject was arrested for Public Intoxication. The male was found to be in possession of several items that did not belong to him and were removed from a building on the property. Additional charges for theft are pending at this time.

Sgt. Angela took a report of theft involving paintings that were taken from the antique show. A report was made and the case remains under investigation. Lala also spoke with a complainant regarding a road rage incident which resulted in damage to a vehicle. The suspect has been identified and a report has been filed. Sgt. Ryan Meagher placed a subject into custody for Public Intoxication at the antique show.

Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to the Cistern area in reference to a burglary. A report was taken and it was determined the items were taken approximately five years prior. Guentert also assisted with a pursuit in the High Hill area. The driver of the vehicle took off running on foot. Guentert gave chase through the woods and was able to take the suspect into custody. The subject had multiple felony warrants for Burglary.

Deputy A.J. Gonzales stopped a vehicle in the Plum area. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of THC products and was arrested. Gonzales was dispatched to a business in the La Grange area in reference to a subject who was violating a protective order. The subject was located and arrested.

Deputy Herman Olvera responded to a vehicle fire involving two transit vans on Interstate 10 near Flatonia. No injuries were reported and the Flatonia Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fires.

Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle in the West Point area. The driver was found to have an active felony warrant out of Fayette, County for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver was arrested. Moore also stopped a vehicle in the Schulenburg area. The driver was found to have a felony warrant out of Fayette County and was arrested.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to a residence in the La Grange area in reference to a suicide. The scene was investigated and a report was completed. Ulbig also took a report of damage to property that occurred in the Flatonia area. The case remains under investigation at this time.

Deputy Duane Meagher responded to an address in the Schulenburg area in reference to an inquest. An investigation was conducted and no foul play was suspected. Meagher was assisting with traffic control at a motor vehicle accident in the Hostyn area when a vehicle appeared to be lost and needed assistance. Meagher made contact with the driver at which point it was discovered there was a deceased person in the passenger seat. An investigation was conducted and no foul play was suspected.

Detective Kenn Kretz responded to the theft of wheels and tires from a company in the La Grange area. Evidence was collected and the case is currently under investigation.

Deputy Joe Gonzales took a report of a violation of a protective order. The subject was later arrested a few days later. Gonzales took a report of several damaged mailboxes in the Swiss Alp area.

Deputy Holly Smith assisted with a call at a gas station in Schulenburg in which a subject was trespassed from the business. Smith also assisted with a subject who was placed into custody for Public Intoxication at the antique show.

Deputy Jared Michalec responded to the Ellinger area in reference to a suspicious vehicle that was called in by a concerned citizen. The vehicle was located and after further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested. Michalec also took a report of a tractor that caught fire in the Ellinger area. A report was taken and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Deputy Seth Nagel responded to the La Grange area in reference to a motorcycle that caught fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown. Nagel also received a complaint of an antique vendor that was smoking marijuana in the Warrenton area. Nagel located the subject who was found to be in possession of marijuana. The subject was arrested.

Deputy Lee Phillips took a report of theft that occurred near La Grange. A report was taken and the items were entered into the database as stolen. Phillips impounded a vehicle on SH 71 near the power plant due to the vehicle being left abandoned over 48 hours. Phillips also took a report of theft which occurred in the Frisch Auf area.

Deputy Dustin Kieshnick stopped a vehicle outside of La Grange. The driver was arrested for several charges including Smuggling of Persons, Possession of Identifying Information, Possession of Marijuana and Credit Card abuse. Kieshnick stopped a vehicle outside of Ellinger. After further review, the driver was arrested of several narcotics charges and Unlawfully Carrying of a Weapon.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 50 individuals for the month of October.
