Fayette Co. Retired Teachers Meet, Enjoy Ice Cream Social
Members of the Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, Sept. 12. Refreshments (ice cream social) were provided by the Executive Board.
Cards for Nancy Pietsch, Rosemary Morrow, and Tim Lee were signed by all present. The business portion of the meeting was composed of the following committee reports: Treasurer: Nancy Pietsch gave the bank balance, as of Aug. 31. Community Service: Joan Miertschin reminded all of the importance of recording volunteer hours, which can include family care.
Healthy Living: Kathy Koch provided “September Healthy Living News” which included a reminder to get flu shots; 8 reasons healthy sleep should be nonnegotiable; a list of small lifestyle changes that deal with how/what to eat, and how to change/have “doable” daily physical activities.
Informative and Protective Services: Kim Joost provided, via email, “Online Security” tips. Legislative: Karen Fitch provided a list of questions to ask 2022 legislative candidates, and “Election Dates to Remember”. She also suggested that all present “google” Ballotpedia, and The League of Women Voters for information on candidates. TRTA Foundation: Melanie Mica reminded all to bring items for the November meeting silent auction, which will benefit the TRTA Foundation.
New Business: President Lisa Slinkard said that work is being done on revising the District 13 Standing Rules, which, when finished, will appear in the Fayette County Directory. She also reminded all to bring an item to the November meeting, for the silent auction, and/or be prepared to purchase items. Three new members were welcomed: Sabina Rotter, Marian Tajchman, and Susan Vecera. The following drawings were held: New Member, won by Marian Tajchman; local dues paid, won by Kim Joost; Children’s Book Project, won by Marian Tajchman. The business portion of the meeting concluded with all present enjoying games of Bunco.
A field trip is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 11, to the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham.
