Faith Lutheran High Students Return to School; Holy Cross Picnic is Sept. 3
Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda will hold their Annual Church Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the church picnic grounds. The Ladies Aid group is now taking preorders for sides of noodles, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. You can call the church office at (979) 242-3333 to place your order for sides. BBQ brisket, and pork will be sold by the pound and fryers will be sold individually at the pits beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The Ladies Country Store will be open all day beginning at 9 a.m. They will be selling home baked goodies as well as lots of home-canned jams, jellies, pickles, salsas and such. They also offer greeting cards for sale as well as Rada Cutlery, which is made in the U.S.
Children’s activities will begin at 11 a.m. The ladies will have silent auction from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hamburgers, nachos and French fries will be sold beginning at 4 p.m. The live auction will begin at 5:30 p.m.
This year half of the proceeds will go towards parochial school tuition assistance. Live music by Mark Gruetzner will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Lost Cause Band will be playing from 2-5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day.
Bluff Creek Ranch Blowout Warda is home to Bluff Creek Ranch, a working cattle ranch that has the distinction of being the first mountain bike ranch in Texas. There are 8.9 miles of well shaded, rolling, single track trails that wind through hardwoods and pines.
Their next event will be The Bluff Creek Blowout held Oct. 14-15. This is a 24 hour Terra Firma racing event that can be done solo or on a team of up to 10 people. Teams try to log as many laps as possible, with only one member riding at a time. The team or solo rider with the most laps in a 24-hour time period wins. The single track winds through oak and pine groves combining quick up an down hills, short technical sections, and a fast-flowing trail. The course is marked with arrows for day riding, and reflective tape for night riding. More information on this race can be found at bcrwarda.com. Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study Group will begin a new study on the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. This 11week study will cover the calling of the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. Stamp Program Ends The Ladies Stamp Program at Holy Cross in Warda is coming to an end and they ask that anyone having stamps to turn in would do so by Sept. 1 so they can get them sent in to the Texas District Stamp Program. They can be brought to the church office, dropped off in the designated box in the hallway, or mail to Lisa Gay P.O. Box 141 Warda, TX. 78960.
Fried Chicken Dinner
St. Paul Lutheran Church Adult Fellowship in Serbin will have their annual fried chicken dinner on Sunday Sept. 10 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Preorders are preferred and all to-go plates will be sold for $15. If you would like to order plates you can call (979) 3669650 by Sept. 6. All proceeds will be going toward future church/school projects.
Condolences
Sympathy to Judy Wagner and Bobby Hentschel and their families on the death of their stepmom, Frances Hentschel, on Aug. 12. Her funeral was Aug. 17 at Mt. Calvary in La Grange.
Holy Cross Services
Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.
Sunday School Promotion Sunday will be held on Sunday Aug. 27.

FLHS Oktoberfest
Save the date for Faith Lutheran High School’s Annual Oktoberfest Saturday, Oct. 28. New this year will be the Battle of the Vines, in addition to the Battle of the Brew-both are home brew competitions, so start planning your brews now. Returning will be the traditional German meal, domino tournament, cornhole tournament, music, kids games and lots of fun.
