The Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association was founded in 1984. More and more young cattlemen became involved in the Beefmaster breed. JBBA is currently one of the fastest-growing junior beef breed associations with members hailing from across the United States.

JBBA offers a complete and well-rounded slate of programs for all members that covers every aspect of the beef industry. This allows members to gain valuable knowledge and experience to be better prepared to be leaders in the agriculture industry.

The 36th annual JBBA National Show and Convention was held July 17-21 at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton. This is a family fun event for all involved. This summer showcase provided endless opportunities for junior members to compete with their Beefmaster cattle as well as the educational contests that were offered. The week-long event was jam packed with fun events and contests for the entire family.

Brandon, Carissa, Rheagan, and Rilan Karisch spent the week at the event with their show animals. On Sunday, July 17, Rheagan’s bull, Sarge, was entered in the Ultrasound Carcass Show. He placed first in his class and was awarded a prize.

On Monday, Rheagan and Rilan participated in the Public Speaking Contest. Rheagan chose her topic, wrote her speech, practiced, and delivered. She placed fourth in this contest.

Tuesday was Showmanship day and Rheagan placed twelfth in this event.

On Wednesday the kids participated in the E 6/Advancer Show and Bred and Owned Female and Bull Show. The heifers placed fourth, fifth, sixth, and the bull placed second.

Thursday was the national heifer show, the highlight of the whole show. Kids and animals from all over the United States competed. The quality of animals was supreme and the competition was tough. Rheagan placed fifth with Maggie, eighth with Grace and third with Bellamee. Rilan placed seventh with Duchess.

The kids also participated in livestock judging, sales talks about their animals, and team sales talk.

At the banquet Thursday evening, Rheagan learned that she placed tenth overall individual in the junior age division and brought home a buckle. Additionally she was re-elected as a JBBA Ambassador.
