Ellinger VFD Fundraiser A Success

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual feast and fundraiser on Sunday, April 24 at the Ellinger Community Center.

Almost a thousand plates were sold for the drive-thru meal. Firemen and friends were up at 3 a.m. getting the chickens on the pits for the meal. They did an outstanding job; the chickens were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Additionally other crews were on the scene preparing potatoes, green beans, sausage, and BBQ sauce. Items for the live auction were on display early in the morning also. Crews worked diligently so that everything ran smoothly and timely.

Many Ellinger residents and community members came together to make the event another successful one. Much planning and preparation goes into making one of these events successful. Hours are spent cutting and hauling wood to cook the meat. James Polasek mixes his own special recipe for the seasoning that goes on the chickens that are washed and prepared for cooking early Saturday morning. Pits are cleaned, supplies get hauled up to the hall, potatoes are peeled, and raffle items are delivered to the hall. There is much work to putting on these annual events, but the community enjoys getting together for fellowship and serving helping each other.

85th Annual Tomato Festival

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 85th Annual Tomato Festival, the last weekend in May. The fun gets underway on Friday, May 27, with the following competitions: a Chef’s Choice Entrée, desserts, chips and salsa, and margarita contests. Entertainment on Friday will be provided by the Ledershosen Junkies from 8 to 11 p.m.

The BBQ cookoff is Satur-day, May 28; competitors will cook brisket, chicken, pork spare ribs, pork butts, and pinto beans. There will also be a farmer’s breakfast and bloody Mary contest, and a chopped challenge.

Additionally there will be a live auction and drawing for the raffle winners. This year will also feature a Tomato Trot 5K fun run. Live music on Saturday will be provided by The Bandits. On Sunday locals will be cooking and serving fried chicken and sausage along with delicious sides. Serving gets underway at 10:30 a.m. and plates will be $12.

The Chamber is also sponsoring a raffle. The drawing for the prizes will be held on May 29 via Facebook-live at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will go towards restoration of the hall, scholarships, and community improvements.

Ellinger Sewer and Water

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply will be holding its annual meeting on April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Community Center Dining Hall. A meal will be provided beginning at 6 p.m..

Fayetteville Brethren Church

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Face book page.

Ellinger VFD

The Ellinger VFD will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. They will drill on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m.
