Joe Jameson, Senior Warden of St. James Episcopal Church, La Grange, announced today plans to produce and host a celebratory event for the 250th anniversary of the founding of America.

At this point the plan is for two performances, both at historic St. James, which is becoming known as “the concert church.” The first will be on Friday evening, July 26, 7 pm. The second will be the next day, Saturday, the 27 at 3 pm.

“’The Voice of Freedom: in Script and Song’ should be a highlight of our community events celebrating the founding of our country,” he said. Readings from the era performed by many of our citizens will be highlighted by songs from the period performed by a special choir comprising some of our community’s talented singers. The choir to be known as the Celebration Choir will be accompanied by violinists, cello, piano, flute and other instruments.

According to Don Kirby, the St. James Music Director, our county is blessed with a deep pool of musical talent. This alone should make for a memorable event topping the community calendar in the summer of our 250th year of independence.

According to Larry Jackson, chair of the Fayette County Semiquincentennial Commission, “This is a perfect example of our aim to make the celebration All Through the County, All Through the Year. The voice of freedom is not a monotone, but rich harmony. St. James will be putting this on full display in this summer production. We are very grateful to the organizers.”

Though admission is free, there will be a free-will donation for attendees. St. James is seeking sponsors to help defray the costs of producing the event. Sponsorships are taxdeductible and will be recognized in the program and other related materials.

All are welcome. St. James is across from H-E-B in La Grange. For more information: 979-968-3910 or visit www.stjameslagrange.org.
