ARTS for Rural Texas presents Divergent II, a photography exhibition by Jerry Brown and Art Stokes as a participating exhibition of the biannual FotoFest 2022. Divergent II will be on display at the ARTS Gorman Gallery, located at 1201 S. Kessler Ave., Schulenburg. The exhibition will open with a public reception on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Jerry Brown has been capturing images on film and digital media for the past 45 years. Raised in Houston, Jerry moved to Fayetteville in 1997 with his wife Jeanette, where, together with a few other local residents, they would found the Fayetteville Art Guild (which would later be know as Arts for Rural Texas); offering art classes after school to local children. Jerry’s black and white film and digital work over his 45-year career has earned him a fellowship award from the Houston Photographic Society as well as featured exhibitions throughout Texas and around the world including galleries in North Carolina; Paris, France; The Harry Ranson Center at the University of Texas, Austin; as well as galleries and private collections throughout the United States. Jerry Brown’s black and white photography takes the viewer on a journey to remote locations where natural landscapes and fascinating architecture will inspire them to wonder and wander.

Art Stokes of Round Top has been working in black and white photography since the early 1980s in Denver, CO where he lived, raised his family, and taught in the public school system. His works have been shown in Denver at the Ginny Williams Gallery and the Arts Therapy Center. In 1993, Art retired from teaching and moved to Round Top to join the staff at Festival Institute. Since, he has been featured at the Live Oak Arts Center in Columbus, Houston Community College, the gallery space at Festival Institute, The Mesquite Arts Center, as well as numerous art fairs, ArtWalk Fayetteville, and more. Today, Art Stokes captures stunning images in brilliant color, often printed in large format on canvas and glued to panel board.

Divergent II will be on exhibit through Nov. 19 at the ARTS Gorman Gallery in Schulenburg.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artworks are available for purchase at the gallery and through the ARTS website at https://artsforruraltexas.org/ arts-gorman-gallery.
