Dancing Under the Stars Fundraiser Benefits Lutherhill Ministries Saturday

Dancing Under the Stars will be on Saturday, July 20 at the Rutersville Hermann Sons Hall (5830 State Hwy. 159 La Grange.) This event will benefit Lutherhill Ministries and is hosted by Shared Lutheran Ministries and St. Paul Lutheran in La Grange.

Dinner will be a fried chicken and sausage meal served at 5 p.m., dine in preferred and free will donation accepted. There will be a live and silent auction and music is provided by The Back Porch Boys starting at 6 p.m. BYOB and lawn chairs. Church members are encouraged to bring desserts for the meal.

Vacation Bible School Day Camp will be at St. John in Rutersville the week of July 22. This week will be half days only. Breakfast will be served for the staff and kids. Forms are available at each church or online. For more information contact Kristina Buro at (713) 829-6445.

Worship services are still offered on Facebook, You Tube and KTIM 89.1 on Sundays at noon. Ellinger has worship every Sunday at 8 a.m. with communion.

Brethren Church 

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m.

Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.

Food Bank Truck 

Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction of FM 1291 and FM 2145 on Saturday, July 20th from 10-11 a.m. Food distribution will be a drive through. Volunteers will distribute and load the pre-boxed food into each vehicle as the client drives through the line. Clients will need to clean out the back seats, trunks or bed of the truck.

Ellinger C of C 

The recycle trailer will be on the Ellinger Chamber grounds on Wednesday, July 31. Bring your recyclables such as glass, cardboards, newspapers, etc. between 1-4 p.m.

Hermann Sons Dance 

The 2024-2025 dance program is now open at a discounted fee for members. Starting this year, non-members can also participate. It is available to the youth ranging from age 3-17 as of Sept. 1, 2024. There are 18 schools to choose from and registration can be found at hermannsonlife. org. Members are charged the $35 a month. Non-members will pay the same fee along with a $200 registration fee. The deadline is Oct. 1 to sign up.

Poncik Obituary 

RuthMae(Kulhanek)Poncik, 92, of Galveston passed away on June 28 in Galveston. Funeral services were July 1 at the Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. She was born on March 20, 1932 in Pisek, Colorado County to Adolph and Alma Pecashek Kulhanek. She was of catholic faith and enjoyed church picnics, festivals and followed polka bands of the area. She is preceded in death by her husband John Peter Poncik Sr, parents, brother Elmond Kulhanek and first cousin Emil Koehl. She was survived by sons John Peter Poncik. Jr. of New Ulm and Michael Lynn Poncik of Galveston, sister-inlaw Shirley Kulhanek, Goddaughter Laura Brugger and nieces, nephews and cousins from the Ellinger/Fayetteville area.
