Construction Begins on Community Center And Performance Theater in Fayetteville
Phase I construction has begun on the 1890s building that will become the Fayetteville Community Center & Performance Theater.
Gaeke Construction Company of Giddings has begun on the site. The first phase work will shore up the foundation (still functioning a century later), update the siding, doors, and windows, and prepare the first floor of the historic building for occupancy. The new theater will attach to the back of the old twostory building.

John Dennis, Design and Construction Manager, met with the Fayetteville Historic Preservation Board to discuss how the Fayetteville Community Center Group plans to preserve the look and feel of the original building while making it meet the safety and efficiency standards of today. Dennis also met with the city’s mayor and inspection team to plan how the building can be saved while adjusting it to meet the current needs of the community. Plans have been well received, and the group is moving forward with a great deal of buy-in.
The first phase began with selective demo to give the structural engineers more of an idea of what work will need to be done to shore up the foundation.
Demolition has also begun on the non-historic add-ons to the back of the building. This is the area where the theater will eventually be built.
Fundraising efforts continue for the project. The Fayetteville Community Center Group will continue to meet with interested individuals and funds, and are happy to share the vision for what will be an incredible asset for the area. The group appreciates your support of the project and hopes that your interest continues. And if you know of other individuals or foundations that may be able to help, please let the group know.
The 2023 Night at the Theater Gala in February will certainly be sold out soon. The Black Tie event was a tremendous success last year with the press coverage touting this as the area’s event of the year. You don’t want to miss out on this year’s party being held at Windy Knoll again. To secure a table or seats at the Gala, call Joan Herring at (713) 818-9766.
