Civic Association Accepting Scholarship Applications
The Winchester Area Civic Association (WACA) will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to a person(s) enrolled or enrolling in an institute of higher learning for careers in the professions helping in the community such as nursing, teaching, criminology/peace officer, fire sciences, dental, radiology/imaging, or EMT certification/paramedic. The Association feels careers in these areas serve our community and this is a way to show appreciation to people entering these fields.
To qualify you must be a resident of the area serviced by Winchester Area Civic Association; be a senior attending or have attended a school in the area; enrolled in college or an approved program by the fall of 2024 and proof of enrollment. Or you must have been enrolled in college for at least one semester with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Winchester Area VFD
March 12 is the date set for the annual public meeting of the WAVFD meeting.A6 p.m. social will be held at Zilss Hall followed by a 6:30 p.m. meeting with election of officers for the 2024 year. A meal will

the meeting. Supporters in our responding area are welcome to come participate in the evening. The WAVFD is looking for fire department volunteers. Due to the retirement of many of the older volunteers, new fire department personnel are needed. Training is provided. If you have questions, please contact one of the current firefighters for information about how you can join or attend this annual meeting.
Annual Spring Fling
The 7th Annual Spring Fling sponsored by the Winchester Area Civic Association will be held March 30, 2024 beginning at 9 a.m. with a pancake and sausage breakfast. Games, Easter egg hunt and pictures with the Easter Bunny will all be included in the fun morning. Come and bring your children and/or grandchildren.
Quilt Block Trail
Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall, and enjoy viewing the sixty-five quilt blocks displayed in our area on the Quilt Block Trail. The trail is self-driven, available at your convenience, and is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Soon wildflowers will be in bloom and the trail is beautiful. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps may be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is inexpensive and air conditioned. The hall is available for rentals.
The Little Free Library
The library is on the covered patio at Hall and is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s) look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. Also on the patio, there is a bulletin board available to post event notices.

First United Methodist
The Winchester First United Methodist Church has service on the first and third Sunday of the month at 9 a.m.
Shiloh Baptist Church

St Michael’s Church
The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:15 a.m. The Rev. Nate Hill is the pastor.
