The City-Wide Garage Sale put on by the Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce was a huge success with 32 locations on the map. Whew! The Fayetteville Lions Club scored over $3,500. This included proceeds from their Sneak Preview night.

Lake Fayette

Alice and Tim Price take great care of Lake Fayette and it shows. They manage both Park Prairie and Oak Thicket. You can fish, swim, walk the path, stay in a variety of cabins or simply enjoy a picnic. “We take a lot of pride in this property,” stated Alice. “We ask everyone to keep things clean but that’s not always the case. Right now, the water is really warm and the fish are deep. The lake is full of bass, catfish and tilapia. They don’t like to come to the surface because the temperature of the water is between 92 and 98 degrees.

Gates open at the lake at 5 a.m. and the gate house opens at 8 a.m. It’s $7 for those aged 13-65. For anyone over 65, it’s $4. If you’re entering before 8 a.m., money is placed in the fee box. The park closes at 8 p.m. Temporarily, the parks are delaying opening hours from July 10-14 for conservation practices. The parks and boat ramps will open at 11 a.m. those days. Martin Payne is continuing to raise funds for the Fayetteville Park. Evan Quiros jumped on board and donated a cement table and bench that was engraved to honor his daughter, Susie Quiros Jacomine. Susie and her family passed away in a plane crash n 2008. Payne arranged for the delivery of the table and bench and had them installed right under the huge oak tree.

Recommendations

Books we’re reading and shows we’re watching: “The Miss Fortune” book series by Jana Deleon involves lots of spies and investigations going down in tiny Sinful, Louisiana. “These are fun, small town adventure novels with a former female CIA operative that allow your mind to escape the heat.” Thank you Erin Urban.

Evan Quiros mentioned that the best show he’s watched recently is “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” about an autistic woman that becomes an attorney. “It’s out of South Korea,” stated Quiros. “It’s dubbed and subtitled, and the subtitles can be a bit challenging. My favorite book of all time is ‘Aztec’ by Gary Jennings.” Go to goodreads. com and read all about it. Email any and all recommendations to newsinfayette-ville@ gmail.com.
