City of Carmine Offering Debris Pick Up

The City of Carmine has contracted Texas Commercial Waste to run a waste truck to pick up tree debris from the May 16 storm. This service is only for customers that pay for the City of Carmine’s trash service. There will be no additional cost.

The tree debris truck is expected to run on Friday, May 31. Wood, limbs, and branches must be cut into four-foot lengths, tied into bundles, and weigh no more than forty pounds.

In addition to the truck, the City of Carmine will have a thirty-foot roll-off dumpster, which will be stationed at Carmine City Hall on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2. This service will be for all city of Carmine residents at no cost.

Please place debris inside the dumpster, and not on the City Hall grounds. This dumpster is strictly for tree debris from the storm only. Do not place any other items in the dumpster.

The city will have a dumpster day for other waste in the fall.

Vacation Bible School 

VBS will be held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church June 9-13 from 5:30-7:45 p.m. The closing program will be on Sunday, June 16 during the 10 a.m. worship service.

$5 Credit for Survey

The city of Carmine is offering a $5 credit to this month’s water bill for all water customers who return a completed survey to City Hall by May 31. It has questions by the TCEQ (Texas Commission of Environmental Quality) about the city water.

Surveys have been sent in the mail, may be found at cityofcarmine.com website, or picked up at City Hall.

RT-C School News 

Administrative offices will be open May 28-Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Offices will be closed July 3-7 for the Fourth of July holidays.

Carmine VFD 

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department drill night is on June 13 at 7 p.m.

Bingo for Seniors 

Bingo for Seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) has a change of date for June. It will be held on the third Sunday. The location is at the Ledbetter Community Center from 2-4 p.m. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.

This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment. The next date is June 16.

MLLC News 

AA meets Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Mission and Ministry Building.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion observing the Second Sunday of Pentecost is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy communion is at 10 a.m.

Visitors’ Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Recycling Trailer 

The recycling trailer is in Carmine on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall.

Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please separate them. Numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plastics are not accepted. They do not take plastic bags.

Also accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
