    City of Carmine Enforces Water Restrictions

The City of Carmine has put mandatory water restrictions in effect until further notice. One of the water wells went down on Aug. 19 forcing the city to set strict water conservation measures while the repairs are being addressed.

Residents are only to water between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Odd numbered addresses may only water on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Even numbered addresses may water on Thursdays and Sundays.

Washing of vehicles is prohibited. Other ways to help are: turn off the faucet while brushing teeth; run washing machines only when full; and take shorter showers.

Heritage Committee 

The Heritage Committee of the Carmine Chamber of Commerce will have its quarterly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. in the museum along Sylvan Street, which is on the south side of Hwy 290.

The program emphasis will be a comparison of “Then” (earlier times) and “Now.”

There is no membership role. All are invited, so come and bring a friend or family member.

RT-C School News 

Round Top-Carmine JV and varsity volleyball teams play at Schulenburg on Sept. 3 with the first game at 5 p.m. Jr. High, JV, and Varsity will participate in the Aggieland Tournament at Legends Center in Bryan on Sept. 6 and 7.

The FFA Chapter meeting will be Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

Bingo for Seniors 

Bingo for Seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) will be held this Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Ledbetter Community Center from 2-4 p.m. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.

This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment. 

Classics for Kids

The Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation is sponsoring their first Classics for Kids Car & Truck Show on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Carmine Hall, 300 N Hauptstrasse, Carmine. Car and truck registration will be from 8-10 a.m. Trophies will be given at 1 p.m.

Cost for registration is $25 by Sept. 6 and $30 after Sept. 6.

Cars and trucks from the years 1999 and older are welcome.

Spectator entry is free. Tshirts will be available at the show and at https://rtceducationfoundation. org/eventtickets online. There will be goodie bags, food and drinks for purchase and oldies music. It will be held rain or shine.

Sympathies Extended 

Sympathy is extended to the family of Pastor William “Bill” Derrick, who passed away on Aug. 18 at Bec’s Blessing in Giddings. He served Lutheran congregations from 1966 to 2005 at St. John Lutheran in Robstown, Abiding Savior Lutheran in Houston, and Salem Lutheran of Brenham.

He was a former member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine where he sang in the choir. The children of Martin Luther Lutheran School looked forward every week to joyfully sing with Pastor Bill.

His funeral service was held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Aug. 24 with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton.

Fried Chicken Fundraiser The Carmine Hall (Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein) is sponsoring a fried chicken meal fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tickets are $15 and it is carry- out only. Desserts will be available for a donation which will support the scholarship fund.

Collecting Cancelled Stamps Martin Luther Lutheran Church continues to collect cancelled postage stamps for wounded soldiers. Leave a one-fourth inch edge around the stamps. Stamps with envelopes may also be brought to the church and someone will cut them.

MLLC News 

AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion observing the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy communion is at 10 a.m. The Noisy Offering will be received.

Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Visitors’ Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Recycling Trailer 

The recycling trailer is in Carmine on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. Five meals come in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread for a donation of $10. This makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
