Christmas at Winedale this Sunday

News 

This Sunday is the annual Christmas at Winedale from Noon to 4 p.m. This 19th century event features crafts and folklife demonstrations, a quilt exhibit, musical performances, hayrides, food and beverages and more …and it’s all free. Winedale is located at 3760 FM 2714 in Round Top.

This year’s Quilt Exhibit is titled “An Intimate Bond: Clothing and Quilting in the Winedale Quilt Collection” continues through this Sunday, Dec. 15. The pieces in this exhibition showcase the quilter as inventive recycler, chronicler of important milestones or the passage of time, and designer of garments inspired by and incorporating quilting techniques. The exhibit hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 12-4 p.m.

Round Top Family Library The 20th annual Chili Cook-Off will be held Sunday, Jan. 19 beginning at 12 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Tickets are $10 and children 12 and under are free. If you’d like to have a team, fill out the application online at ilovetoread.org, or pick up an application at the library. The day will be filled with great chili, live music by the Black Cat Choir, and lots of fun. All proceeds benefit the Round Top Family Library.

Local Events 

Brunch with Santa at Lulu’s. This year there are several opportunities to hang out with the big guy for a little Christmas magic and pictures. Two more opportunities remain on December 15 and 22. Make your reservations at exploretock.com/lulus-roundtop- round-top/.

The Hamburger Social will resume in January. Mark you calendars for the annual New Year’s Eve Dance on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Ring in 2025 with music by the Lost Cause Band, cornbread and black eyed peas, and lots of fun. Tickets are $20 and are on sale now.

Festival Hill 

The annual New Year’s Day concert featuring Linda Paterson and Friends is set for Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets and information can be found at festivalhill.org.

Church News 

Mass at St. Martin’s Catholic Church holds a monthly service the first Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. More information can be found at stjohnfayetteville. com/st-martin.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby services are at 8 a.m.

Enjoy an evening of oldtime Christmas caroling on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. This annual event is a seasonfavorite. Neighbors, family and friends come together to enjoy singing, refreshments, and to celebrate the spirit of the season. This event is hosted by the Shelby Area Historical Society. The silent auction benefits the historical society and is a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Bring a flashlight and blanket if it’s cold – there’s no electricity in the old church building on Skull Creek Road.

Round Top Church meets at 8:45 a.m. for Bible Study, and the service is held at 10 a.m. The monthly Bible study met on Dec. 5, with Pastor John David Nedbalek beginning by singing and playing the “Senior Citizens Song,” while the group joined in with the refrain of “Jesus Loves Me.” This was an excellent example of how we receive grace as we age. The way to live an effective life of love and joy is by showing grace, mercy, and kindness to ourselves and others; or saying “walking in love, as Christ loved us.” Various members of the group gave examples of love or mercy extended to them, or shared ways in which they extended it to others. The practice of grace is what keeps us strong, saves, and teaches us the peace and abundance of God, for ourselves and for all people.

Pearlie Wagner served as hostess, and everyone brought food to share for what became a feast. Several members continued the field trip to the “Holiday House” at Market Hill. The group served for the Advent supper held Dec. 11 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. The next bible study will be Jan. 2. Come join the group for some enlightening conversation.

St. Cecilia holds service in Haw Creek Chapel at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
