Christmas in July Bunco Held in Ellinger
Christmas in July Bunco at the Ellinger Community Center on July 15 was a tremendous success. The hall was decorated with Christmas trees and traditional as well as not so traditional décor.
Guests were served a holiday meal of roasted turkey, ham, homemade dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, cranberries, and banana pudding all prepared by Rose Kubena and Michael Schlabach. Bar workers were Dennis Niesner, Lawrence and Paulette Urban, and Bradley Dunk. Floor runners were Nereida Rubio, Erica Hrachovy Michalsky and Carly. Bunco organizers included Nicole Ramirez and Miranda Schlabach.
The big winners included: Carleigh Hightower - most buncos; Ellen Schlotterbeck - most wins; Dorothy Wicke - most losses; and Jackie Valenta and Raymie Kana - best costumes.
Door prize sponsors included Woodman Life, Bodega Wine Market, Younique, Mad Taxidermy, Sentsy, YM Apparel and Designs, Jafra Cosmetics, Southeran Ways, and Hruskas Store and Bakery.
SLM Day Camp
Shared Lutheran Ministries Day Camp has been scheduled for July 25-29. It will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The theme for this VBS Camp is “Come as You Are!” All are welcome at Jesus’ table of grace, just as we are. No dress code, no prerequisites. Jesus invites all to come. Participants will be divided into groups called Villages. Each Village will consist of a Lutherhill staff member, a small group assistant, and campers similar in age. Bible studies, nature learning, service opportunities, arts and crafts, and games will take place during Village time. Breakfast will be from 8-8:30 a.m. Pick up will be 3:30-4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and early pick up - 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Parents are welcome to attend Pool Day at Lutherhill on Thursday, and Talent Show/Closing Worship at 2:20 p. m. on Friday. Campers are Kindergarten to fifth grade (per 2022-2023 school year.); Junior volunteers – sixth to eighth graders; Volunteers – ninth graders and older. Collecting Food for AMEN
St. John Rutersville WELCA is once again collecting food for the AMEN food pantry. Suggested items for July include: heavy-duty reusable bags, spam, soup, canned chili, ranch style beans, black-eyed peas, boxed oatmeal, and biscuit mix.
Attends Hermann Sons Camp
Brylee Brugger, daughter of Chris and Laura Brugger of Ellinger, recently attended Hermann Sons Camp in Comfort. She enjoyed two weeks of making new friends and experiencing new activities. Her favorites were the challenge course and swimming. She was excited to see her boy cousin at Game Night along with catching up with her Big Sister from last year. She hopes to be a counselor one day. Brylee is a member of the Rutersville Lodge.
Fayetteville Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Satur days at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Face book page.
