Kathy and Frank Chlumsky traveled to Katy to celebrate their grandson Hunter Dong’s eighth birthday. They enjoyed a mini reunion of sorts since all the kids were together for the celebration. Kathy’s dad, Kenneth Lamb also celebrated his 91st birthday. Joy Hostetter celebrated her eighty second birthday with her family. She enjoyed birthday cake and loads of family love. Joy’s other half, Mike Hostetter will be celebrating his birthday on Aug. 15. If you see him out and about be sure to wish him a very happy birthday.

Rain Muldoon has gotten a few much needed showers. It all depended on where you were under the cloud on how much rain you received. Any and all rain is a welcomed sight with everything being so dry.

Anniversary Trip James and I finally got to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We traveled to the Texas Panhandle to check out the Amarillo area. In the past few years we have started exploring parts of Texas we have not had a chance to check out, especially the history and the sights. This year was the Texas Panhandle area. On our way up to Amarillo we stopped in Sweetwater to visit with our old friends, Terry and Don Deville. They took time out to come into Sweetwater and treat us to some local cuisine. It was fun slowing down to enjoy catching up. Before sending us on our way, Terry gave us some great advice on which way to travel. She gave us the most scenic route that was literally traffic free. We saw some gorgeous countryside with lots of red dirt.

When we made it to Amarillo, we did the true tourist thing and ate at the Big Texan Steakhouse. We also checked out the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon. A wonderful collection of so much history from dinosaurs to oil patch. It was worth every minute we spent in the museum.

James and I also enjoyed driving out to the Palo Duro Canyon. All the trails were closed due to recent flooding waters, but we still were able to drive through the canyon and see all the beautiful formations.

We also saw rain. Not sure where we will travel next, but our great state of Texas has so many places to explore and loads of history to learn about.

Neighborhood Watch We all must pull together and watch out for each other in a good neighborhood watch. Get to know your neighbor and let them know if you see something odd or out of place. We can prevent crime only if we keep aware of what is going on. There has been some criminal activity in the area and it takes everyone being aware and brave enough to call that neighbor to let them know what you saw. It is better to let them clear up what is going on rather than to find out later something bad happened. If you see an odd vehicle, take down the license number, the color, make and model and call the Sheriff’s Office. They will send an officer to check out what is going on.
