Celebrate Independence Day Early in Muldoon
Muldoon will be celebrating the Fourth of July early on July 2 with a parade, auction and picnic in the park.
Everyone is invited to come out and join in the fun of being in a parade. If you can walk, ride, stroll, ride horseback, make a float, and just be creative in your celebration of our nation’s birthday. Lineup will be up by the Old Kerr House and the Baptist Church at 8:30 a.m. The parade will start at 9:30 a.m.
For those who do not wish to be in the parade you can always line up along the parade route going down FM154 and looping through the park, so everyone in the parade can see the rest of the parade and wave at each other.
Following the parade at 10:30 a.m. there will be an auction to raise funds for maintenance of the park. This is a great community asset and if anyone wishes to help out can bring an item for the auction. Put your thinking cap on and bring something everyone else will want to bid on. Be sure to bring your items early to drop them off, so they can be logged in and put on display. There will be a silent and a live auction.
Then after all the fun and action of the auction there will be a picnic lunch served. Bring along your favorite summer side to go along with the hot dogs that will be provided. This is a time to show off your cooking skills and also get a chance to sample your neighbors’ best dishes. Bottled water will be provided along with the plates and silverware. Be sure to bring along your lawn chair as seating will be limited and that will ensure you have a seat.
Champion Grandson
Patti Holly recently had the greatest week traveling to the Texas State High School Rodeo Finals in Abilene to watch her grandson Trevor Crainer compete with some of the top young cowboys in the great state of Texas. Trevor is a recent graduate from Carrizo Springs and has worked all year to earn winnings and points to make it to the Finals. This is his 4th year to compete at the finals. Patty has had so much fun watching him compete in a sport he loves.
It has always been a hope and a dream he would make it to Nationals – that dream came true this year. He is Nationals bound, all the way to Gillette, Wyoming, in July to compete in steer wrestling and tie down roping. His words express his excitement of the week: “Wow, what a week. I am beyond blessed to be the State Champ in the steer wrestling and the State Champ in the tie-down. I also was fortunate enough to win the All Around Champion. I was 4.8, 4.0, 4.0 to win the average in steer wrestling and 9.1, 9.8, 8.2 to win the average in the Tie-Down. This is a dream come true.” His Grandpa Dale would be so proud of this young man’s accomplishment.
Out and About
During the recent heat wave Ron and Pam Knotts took their travel trailer to Rockport to spend a few days with Ron’s sister and her husband, Terry and John Fuselier. They did get John’s boat out one day, but the keeper fish were few and far between. As always with this gang, just being together was fun. The days were full of shopping trips, naps and visits to “beachy” restaurants. When the days would cool off just a bit they gathered on the patio to grill some dinner and tell old stories. It was a great start to the summer.
Fire Station Open House
The Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department held their Open House on Saturday to a nice crowd. It was warm, but for those who came out to participate, it was a great day. The kids had a great time learning about the rescue equipment and got to cool off with some shaved ice and popcorn. There was lots of literature along with EMS, Texas Forest Service and PHI air crew members to answer any questions.
Little Lending Library
Just a reminder there is a Little Lending Library by the fire station. It is full of books to choose from to have something to do to keep cool on these hot summer days. Take a book or leave a book. The books continually change with the use of the library. Stop by often and see what is available. It’s a nice little addition to our community, so take advantage of it.
