Carmine Night Out will be held on Thurs, Oct. 5 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carmine Fire Station located at 118 Augsburg Ave.

Enjoy free hot dogs and drinks while getting to know your neighbors.Come here a line-up of speakers from both the county and city. R & R Shaved Ice will be available. The kids will be given a coupon for shaved ice or ice cream. Desserts will not be needed this year.

A flag retirement ceremony will be conducted by the American Legion Post 338 and the Round Top-Carmine 4-HClub.

Names of adults only will be drawn for door prizes. If anyone chooses to do so, donations for door prizes would be appreciated.

Fire trucks will be on display and a helicopter is scheduled to arrive at 7 p.m.

It is sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce, Carmine Lions Club and Carmine Volunteer Fire Department.

Carmine VFD

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

As of Mon., Sept. 18, a bum ban continues to be in effect for Fayette County. The rain is appreciated.

Make sure house numbers are in locations where they can be easily spotted, especially at night.

RT-C School News

RT-C varsity volleyball team defeated Burton in four exciting sets on Sept. 12. The varsity team was the champion at the Aggieland Tournament, which was held Sept. 15 and 16.

Jr. High Parents Night was held Sept. 18 when both the A & B teams hosted Fayetteville.

On Sept. 26, Jr. High, JV and varsity volleyball teams host Aggieland Homeschool with the first game at 4:30 p.m. JV and varsity teams play at Prairie Lea on Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Jr. High and Varsity boys and girls will participate in the Cross-Countiy Meet at Festival Hill in Round Top on Sept. 30.

Jr. FFA officers for the 2023-2024 school year are as follows: President, Madison Markwardt; Vice-President, Reagan Williams; Secretary, Rebekah Sacks; Treasurer, Bree Dooley; Reporter, Caden Tovey; Sentinel, Caydan Nelius; Student Advisor, Morgan Nelius; and Chaplain, Paul McCullough.

The Texas A&M School of Nursing and their Mobile Health Unit will be on the Round Top-Carmine campuses every Wednesday during the school year.

Carmine 42 Domino Club

The Carmine 42 Domino Club met on the first Wednesday at JW’s Steakhouse. After eating a delicious lunch, eight exciting games of 42 were played.

High scoring partners were Edith Flinn and Donna Mueller with a score of 2045 and they played one hand of 126. The second highest scoring partners were LaVeme Albers and Marlene Waak with a score of 1723, having played three hands of 84. Myrt Meinkowsky and Carol Naegeli played two hands of 84. Partners Avalda Pohl and Jeanette Schoenst also played and had one hand of 84.

There were many enjoyable games and friendly conversations. These players are ready for more games on Oct. 4 at JW’s Steakhouse.

Ledbetter Fireman ’v Feast

The Ledbetter Fireman’s Feast will be held on Oct. 7 at the Ledbetter Community Center. Enjoy Bingo games from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Fried Chicken Dinner for dine-in or cany-out begins at 5 p.m. Live auction starts at 6:30 p.m. There will be a country store. The Round Top Hermann Son’s Lodge #151 will donate matching funds for the country store. Delicious desserts will be sold by the Ledbetter Homemakers Club.

All proceeds benefit the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department. MLLC Harvest Festival The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Harvest Festival and Homecoming will be held on Sun., Oct. 15 at the Carmine Hall with country & western theme songs. Confirmation classes of years ending in a 3 and 8 will be recognized. Worship service with Holy Communion begins at 9:30 a.m.

A meal of BBQ pork ribeye, sausage, baked beans, coleslaw, and German potatoes will be served as dine in or cany out from 11 a.m. 12:20 p.m. A drawing will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Bingo for Seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) is held at the Ledbetter Community Center. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.

This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment. In October it will be held on the third Sunday due to the Ledbetter Fireman’s Feast being on Oct. 7. This is a change from what was reported last week.

MLLC News

Confirmation class is Wednesday from 4:15 - 6:15 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost is at 10 a.m. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Meals on Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet evety Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and is for pick-up only until 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot now is open only on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Recycling Trailer

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Accepted are clean #1 and #2 plastic (please separate them and take note that #5 plastics are not accepted), dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Thankful for Rain

The rainfall received Sept. 14-16 was very much appreciated. Our gauge measured 2.6 inches on Thursday, 1 inch on Friday, and again 1 inch on Saturday for a total of 4.6 inches just west of Carmine. Thanks be to God.
