The Carmine Lions Club delivered 145 pounds of food to the AMEN food pantry in La Grange recently. Many thanks to everyone who has donated food. The food drive will continue through the month of November. Everyone’s support is needed and much appreciated. The pantry provided food to 88 clients last week.

The Club was honored to have District Governor Lion David Sahm as the guest speaker at the November meeting. Lion Sahm gave an uplifting and challenging message about the many areas where Lions can serve.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine Cubettes volleyball team defeated North Zulch for the Regional Quarter Finals on Nov. 8, but were defeated by D’Hanis in the semi-finals at the Regional Tournament at Brenham High School on Nov. 11.

The Beta Club sponsored a canned food drive recently.

A Veteran’s Day program was held at the RT-C High School on Nov. 10.

Fall Break and Thanksgiving holidays are Nov. 21-25.

Ledbetter Lane of Lights

The Ledbetter Christmas Lane of Lights will begin Thanksgiving weekend, Nov 2526. Other dates are December 2-3; 9-10; 16-17; and 23. Enjoy a hayride through a lighted path of Christmas reflections. Santa will be there each night. Tickets are available from 6-8:30 p.m. at FM 1291 and Hwy 290.

All proceeds go to the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department. Christmas Fest

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce 38th annual Christmas Fest with the theme “The Polar Express” will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall, located at 300 Hauptstrasse, Carmine, TX 78932. Beef stew and hamburgers will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., dine-in or to-go. Tickets are sold at the door for $12.

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department November meeting has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

The burn ban for Fayette County has been lifted. Remember to call the Fayette County Sheriff’s office at (979) 968-5856 if you plan a controlled burn to give them your name, location of burn, and phone number. In Washington County, call the non-emergency number at (979) 277-7373.

Heritage Committee

The Heritage Committee of the Carmine Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Chamber’s Museum in Carmine at 10 a.m.

The topic of discussion will be “The Evolution of Banking” with Calvin Coufal, president of Carmine State Bank, offering insight into the banking industry, past and present.

All are welcome to attend.

Seafarer’s Boxes

Men in Mission of Martin Luther Lutheran Church are collecting items for Seafarer’s Boxes. The deadline is before Nov. 28, when they will be packed. Items that will be taken to the Port of Houston are: address books, Band-aids made of fabric, gum, hard candy, key chains, pocket-sized notebooks, mechanical pencils, pens, playing cards, socks, Sudoku books, Texas souvenirs, T-shirts, USB flash drives, Word search books, bar soap, individual serving size of hot chocolate and microwave popcorn, small 2023 calendars, comb, dental floss, antiperspirant, disposable razors, flashlight and batteries, small packs of Kleenex, lip balm, nail clippers and travel size shampoo, lotion, Gold Bond cream, Gold Bond powder, and shaving cream.

Rebekah Group Meets

The Rebekah Group of MLLC met Nov. 10. The eleven members present were Barbara Jacob, Leonita Sanders, Colette Wunderlich, Carol Carmean, Joys Baird, Sedalia Ullrich, Diana Wunderlich, Joann Ullrich, Dianna Gerland, Susan Ray, and Nancy Eilers.

November birthday celebrants recognized were Avalda Pohl and Colette Wunderlich. The group sang Happy Birthday.

The Bible study was led by Dianna Gerland with the theme Jesus and nature: Teachers of faith; Session three: Creatures.

The business meeting was called to order by Susan Ray, President.

The Purpose and Mission Statements were recited.

Minutes and treasurer’s report of the previous meeting were approved as read.

Correspondence included thank you notes from Linda Post Bushkofsky, Executive Director of the Women of the ELCA, and from Myrna Wells Ulland, for the gift of $50.00 which was sent for Katie’s Fund. Ulland also mentioned that the location of the 2023 Triennial Gathering will be in Phoenix, Arizona.

Non-perishable food is being collected for AMEN during the month of November.

For the Thankoffering service, special Thankoffering envelopes have been placed in the pews. Ladies volunteered for parts in the service and to serve as ushers. Carolyn Bennetsen (sister of Leonita Sanders) will present the program on quilts. The meal will be served as a drive-thru from the Mission and Ministry Building. Ladies have signed up to bring cookies to be given with the meal.

Plans are to have the WELCA Yearbook ready to hand out in December. It was very beneficial to have the chairpersons of Funeral Serving groups meet.

Poinsettias will be given as gifts for nursing home residents.

The group decided to give $500 to the following for the Christmas contributions: Fayette County Deputy Santa, Hope Rising, AMEN, Rainbow Room, and Hospice Brazos Valley.

It was noted that Janie Mehrens is working on getting the Synod Women’s officers back together.

Tim Sanders and Jason Schroeder took the boxes to Zionsville on Nov. 5 for the Lutheran World Relief shipment. Included in the 27 boxes were: 93 quilts, 43 school kits, 66 personal care kits, and 16 baby care kits.

The Christmas Tree in the Fellowship Hall will be decorated before the first Advent service, which is on Nov. 30.

The Rebekah Group will serve the Advent meal on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. The service is at 7 p.m.

Carol Carmean gave the offering meditation.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the group sang the table prayer.

Hostesses were Colette Wunderlich and Barbara Jacob.

MLLC News

Thanksgiving Eve worship with Holy Communion is at Waldeck Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School meets Sunday at 8:30 a.m. for their Christmas Program practice.

Worship with Holy Communion observing the First Sunday of Advent is at 10 a.m. The congregation sets up and decorates the Chrismon Tree after worship. The service will be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Men in Mission meet Monday at noon for lunch, and will then pack the Seafarer’s boxes.

Recycling Trailer

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Attendants are available to help unload.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Visitors’ Center

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
