    Carmine Lions Club Meets, Awards Scholarships

Carmine Lions Club will meet Tuesday, June 14, at The Carmine VFD Annex Building with the meal beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting. New members will be installed. Pork steaks, potatoes and a vegetable mix left from the 50th anniversary celebration will be served for the meal.

The July 12 meeting will be back at JW’s Steakhouse.

The following RTC seniors were each awarded a $500 scholarship at the Awards Banquet - Brooke David, Ilse Salinas, and Jordan Stanley. Lion Marlene Waak presented the scholarships at the banquet.

Officers and Directors for 2022-2023 year are - President - Ricky Weyand; 1st Vice President - Marlene Waak; 2nd Vice President - Lisa Mayer; 3rd Vice President – vacant; Secretary/ Treasurer - Marie Loewe; Tail Twister - Glenn Treude; Directors - Sonny Marth, Alvis Mueller and J. C. Pohl; Membership Chair - Ronnie Eckert; Club Administrator - Claire Mayer Zapalac; and Past President - Jimmy Loewe.

The officer installation ceremony for the clubs in our zone will be held on June 22, at 6 p.m. at the Lions Den in Giddings. They are serving a Steak Dinner at a cost of $25 per person. RSVP by June 15 to Christi at (512) 909-6526.

Martin Luther WELCA

The Women of the ELCA Salad Supper was held on June 1 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church. The theme was “Celebrate Children.” Leonita Sanders welcomed the 43 guests, children, and members.

Kyle Sanders, Caden Tovey, Reagan Williams, and Morgan Williams played “Jesus Loves Me” using color coded handbells. They, along with Jax Kuecker and Spence Schroeder, also sang the song. Mia Williams and Diane Tovey led the group. Caden Tovey on trumpet and Reagan Williams on clarinet played excerpts from Ode to Joy and Kum Ba Yah.

Songs sung by those in attendance were Jesus Loves the Little Children; Du, Du Liegst mir im Herzen; Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love; Que Sera, Sera; Kum Ba Yah (Come by Here); He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands; and Children of the Heavenly Father.

Dianna Gerland closed the program with prayer and benediction.

Table decorations had cutouts of children from around the world in vintage vases with a variety of grass and flowers. Diana Wunderlich organized the Salad Supper and program.

Many delicious salads and children’s food were enjoyed by all.

Condolences

Sympathy is extended to the family of Verline Mayer Kunkel Schulte, who passed away on May 22. Her funeral service was held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on May 26, with burial at the La Bahia Cemetery. She was very active at her church and in the Brenham community.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine ISD is offering summer camps. Basketball is July 11-13 and Volleyball is July 27-29 with a cost of $50; and the registration deadline is June 30. For late registration, add $15. For Summer Skill Work and Strength & Conditioning, there is no cost or registration deadline. The registration form is on the rtcisd website.

Administration offices will be open May 31 through August 9 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. They will be closed July 4-8.

Blood Drive

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center blood drive was held on May 22. MLLC received credit for 13 units and they thank all those who donated and helped organize this event. The next blood drive will be Aug. 14.

Carmine VFD

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department drill night is June 9 at 7 p.m.

The annual Firemen’s Feast and Fundraiser is scheduled for July 17 at the Carmine Hall. They will serve a fried chicken dinner to-go, drive through only from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until sold out. Donations will be accepted as payment for the meal. Desserts will also be served for a donation. Tickets for a drawing are available.

Carmine Casino Night

Carmine Chamber of Commerce’s Casino Night will be held on Aug. 13 at the Carmine Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. It will be German-themed with an Alpine Band, chicken-fried steak meal, and drinks included.

MLLC News

Vacation Bible School continues through Thursday.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion and the Vacation Bible School closing program is at 10 a.m. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

A reception for Father’s Day and VBS follows worship.

Domino party is Monday at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Recycle Trailer

The Recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers,telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Carmine Chamber

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10-2.
