The Carmine Lions Club held their 50th year celebration on Saturday, April 30. The event was well-attended and everyone had an enjoyable evening.

A big thank you to members, friends, family, the Round Top Lions Club and the Giddings Lions Club who helped make this event a huge success. A special thank you to Lion Michael Morgan who was the guest speaker. Also attending were 4A Zone Chair Lion Kelli Higgins and District Governor Joe Franks. Many thanks to all of you for your continued support through the years. Your help is appreciated.

The club was honored to have two special couples attend. They were Tony and Sharon Buban and Diana and Reuben Wunderlich. Tony was one of the original charter members and Diana’s Dad, Lion W. J. Neese, was the first President of the club.

Two current members, Lion Jerry Jacob and Lion Alvis Mueller, were charter members and are still active members. Lion Alvis Mueller was the Third Vice President and is currently serving as one of the directors. Lion Jerry Jacob was the first Tail Twister. They were both recognized for having completed 50 years as a Lion.

Lion Glenn Treude, Tail Twister, was recognized for 45 years of membership, Gary Mueller for 40 years, and Jocie Jacob Braun, Lisa Mayer, and Monty Mayer for 30 years.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine High School Baseball team’s Regional Quarter Finals games were held at Giddings May 12 and possibly 13. They defeated High Island in the bi-district playoff game at Waller on May 6. Congratulations to the team.

The High School Band Spring Concert will be held May 17 at Festival Hill in Round Top at 6:30 p.m.

The letters and forms are available on the RTCISD website concerning transfer students. If you are unable to access the online forms, please call (979) 249-3200 and a hard copy will be provided.

New-student Enrollment Packet is also currently on the RTCISD website for print out.

Young Farmers Meeting

RT-C Young Farmers meeting will be May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Round Top Hall. Round Top Mercantile/Farmers Lumber Company will have a program on their merger. Food will be available.

Blood Drive

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is having a Blood Drive this Sunday, May 22 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Appointments can be made by contacting khardin@giveblood.org or by logging into your established Digital Donor account.

The drive is being held in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. Each donor will receive a beach towel. Walk-ins are encouraged and welcome in vacant sign-up slots.

Waldeck Church Picnic

Waldeck Lutheran Church Annual Picnic is this Sunday, May 22. There will be a hamburger meal, homemade ice cream, cake walk, country store, corn hole, and a bounce house/water slide. There will also be a drawing at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Meal tickets are $10 and tickets for the drawing are $20 each or 3 for $50. Both are available in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church office.

Carmine VFD Meeting

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is May 26 at 7 p.m.

Mark your calendars for the annual Firemen’s Feast and Fundraiser which is scheduled for July 17.

Carminen 42 Club

The Carmine 42 Domino Club met on May 4 at JW’s Steakhouse. After eating a wonderful lunch with a complementary dessert, eight games of 42 were pursued.

The high scoring partners were Donna Mueller and Linda Mattocks with a score of 2099 and they played two hands of 84. The second highest scoring

The second highest scoring partners were Carol Naegeli and Jeanette Schoenst with a score of 1976 and they had three 84 hands. Also playing were Myrt Meinkowsky and Marlene Waak who also played three hands of 84. Other players were Edith Flinn and Betty Porter who played four hands of 84.

Everyone enjoyed the exciting games and friendly conversations. These players look forward to the next game day on June 1 at JW’s Steakhouse.

Memorial Day Ceremony

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at the Carmine City Park.

If anyone knows a veteran with a Carmine connection who is buried in Fayette or Washington Counties, please call (979) 278-3070 to add them to the roster.

Martin Luther WELCA

The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA will host a salad potluck supper on Wednesday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. It will be a salad potluck meal with the theme “Celebrate Children.” There also be food that is “kid-friendly,” as children are encouraged to attend with their mother and/ or grandmother.

Heritage Committee

The Heritage Committee of Carmine will not meet for the quarterly meeting on June 1. The WELCA salad supper is that evening and several of the group are involved in preparing for that.

Mark your calendars for the next meeting on Sept. 7.

Eichler and Kieke Reunion

Spread the word and continue the tradition. The Eichler and Kieke Reunion will be held Sunday, June 5 at the La Bahia Hall. Happy Hour begins at 11 a.m. and a meal of chickenfried pork steak with sides by Gary will be served at noon. The meal is $12 for both adults and children and the count is needed by May 27.

Gene and Conway will have music and German songs. All are invited to join in, and any additional musicians are welcomed!

Chamber Casino Night

Save the date for the Carmine Chamber of Commerce’s Casino Night on Aug. 13 at the Carmine Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. It will be German-themed with an Alpine Band, chickenfried steak meal, and drinks included.

Tables and individual tickets are available by calling (979) 451-1507. Reserve your spot now because there will be limited admissions.

MLLC News

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion observing the sixth Sunday of Easter is at 10 a.m. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

The blood drive is in the fellowship hall from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

RT-C Baccalaureate Service is at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Men in Mission meet Monday at 6 p.m.

Recycle Trailer

The Recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Carmine Chamber

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10-2.
