Carmine Lighting Contest Winners Announced
The winners have been announced for the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Lighting contest, which was held on Dec. 21.
In the residence division, First place, Gerald and Sidnie Byrket; Second place, Mr. and Mrs. Fernando Cerda; and Third place, Karen Springer.
In the business division, First place, Buck-Up Auction and Realty owned by Heather Kaspar; Second place, Darlene’s Custom Sewing owned by Darlene Etzel; and Third place, Martin Luther Lutheran Church.
The Chamber appreciates all who set up outdoor decorations. All who drive by are enjoying everyone’s efforts and have helped give Carmine a welcoming Christmas glow.
The winners received gift certificates Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein The Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein (Carmine Hall) has announced the winners for the Dec. 19 drawing. R. Lamensky and R. Baker each won a gun. B. Hajek won the $500 gift card which was donated by Gary and Terri Russell.
Eleventh Night Concert The Eleventh Night Concert will be held on Jan. 7, 2024 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 N Rusk, Fayetteville. Advent and Christmas music by Colorado River Conference congregations will be presented.
Light refreshments will be served. The offering goes to the Turtle Wing Foundation. It is sponsored by Shared Lutheran Ministry.
RT-C School News
Round Top-Carmine ISD is break for the Christmas holidays. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
Girls and boys’ varsity basketball teams host North Zulch on Jan. 2 with the first game at 5 p.m. The teams play at Dime Box on Jan. 5 also at 5 p.m.
Jan. 4 is a teacher work day and Jan. 5 is a professional development day.
Carmine VFD
Carmine Volunteer Fire Department hopes everyone has a happy New Year. A regular meeting will not be held in December.

Sympathies
Sympathy is extended to the family of William T. (Sonny) Marth who passed away on Dec. 15. The funeral service was held Dec. 18 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church with burial at the Carmine Cemetery. He was active in the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department, the Carmine Cemetery Association (where he staked graves for many years), Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Carmine Lions Club and the American Legion.
Sympathy is also extended to the family of Roger Sommerfeld who passed away on Dec. 16. He worked with his friend and business partner, Max Baranowski, Jr. doing custom hay baling, running a small feed store, applying fertilizer, and opening Round Top Farm & Ranch. He also ran dozers, enjoyed going to tractor shows, antique tractors, and taught his grandson how to drive tractors. His funeral service was held Dec. 22 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church with burial at Hill’s Cemetery.
Bingo for Seniors
Bingo for seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) is held on the second Sunday of the month at the Ledbetter Community Center from 2 to 4 p.m. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.
This is a nonprofit community event for entertainment. The next date is Jan. 14.
MLLC News
Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Baptism of Our Lord, is at 6 p.m.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 10 a.m. The Christmas Tree will be disassembled after worship.
The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.
Quilting for Lutheran World Relief is Monday at 9 a.m.
Stewardship Committee meets Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Visitors’ Center
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meals on Wheels
Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.
Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
There is only an unmanned trailer in Ledbetter behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic (please separate them and take note that No. 5 plastics are not accepted), dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans.
Attendants are available to help unload in Carmine.
