Carmine Holding Memorial Day Ceremony

A Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. at the Carmine City Park pavilion. Everyone is welcome. Community veterans that served our great country and have died will be remembered and honored. The roster of our great heroes will be read.
Light refreshments will be served immediately following the playing of Taps. Bring a lawn chair if you wish.
For any veteran with a Carmine connection, who are buried in Fayette or Washington Counties, to be added to the roster, please call (979) 278-3070.
Cemetery Decoration Service
The La Bahia Cemetery Decoration service will be held Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery. Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine is in charge of the service this year.
RT-C School News
A free dental clinic will be held at Round Top-Carmine High School on Wednesday, May 22 from 1-4 p.m. for all members of the community. It is sponsored by the Texas A&M University School of Nursing Mobile Health Clinic. They will provide dental screening and fluoride varnish. The last day of classes is on May 23 when school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
High School graduation and eighth-grade promotion is May 24 at 7 p.m. at Festival Hill.
$5 Credit to Complete Survey
The city of Carmine is offering a $5 credit to this month’s water bill for all water customers who return a completed survey to City Hall by May 31. It has questions by the TCEQ (Texas Commission of Environmental Quality) about the city water.
Surveys have been sent in the mail, may be found at cityofcarmine.com website, or picked up at City Hall.

Vacation Bible School
VBS will be held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church June 9-13 from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. The closing program will be on Sunday, June 16 during the 10 a.m. worship service.

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is on May 23 at 7 p.m.

Rebekah Group Meets
The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met on May 9 at 2 p.m. The nine members present were Diana Wunderlich, Joys Baird, Joann Ullrich, Leonita Sanders, Sedalia Ullrich, Jennifer Tinker, Susan Ray, Carol Carmean and Sharon Rhome.
Joann Ullrich led the Bible study with group participation. The study was on Mental Health and Wellness: An Intergenerational Devotional.
The business meeting was called to order by President Susan Ray, and the Purpose and Mission Statements were recited.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Joys Baird for Nancy Eilers, and approved as read.
The treasurer’s report was given by Susan Ray for Dianna Gerland. A donation for $50 was given in memory of LaVerne Kunkel.
Action Report: Diana Wunderlich reported the monthly quilters will meet on Monday, May 13. Donations for AMEN are in May.
Community Report: Sedalia Ullrich will contact Silver Sage in Brenham, where Carol Hall is a resident, for a birthday party for Carol and other residents.
Growth Report: Joys Baird reminded everyone of the WELCA Salad Supper on Wednesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. Invitations were handed to local churches at the Spring Western Cluster meeting in Waldeck in April. Decorating will be Tuesday, June 4 at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Leonita Sanders gave a report on the April Spring Gathering at the Waldeck Lutheran Church. Four members from MLLC attended. They were Leonita Sanders, Vickie Neutzler, Sedalia Ullrich and Joys Baird.
Birthday celebrants for May are Jenell Jaster and Edith Flinn. The group sang Happy Birthday. Carol Carmean continues to send birthday cards and she was thanked for purchasing and sending the cards.
The nominating committee was tabled until next month.
Sedalia Ullrich gave the offering meditation for Jocie Braun. It was based on Luke 24:36-53, the Ascension of Our Lord.
The group prayed the Lord’s Prayer and sang the table prayer.
Hostesses were Susan Ray and Carol Carmean.

Visitors’ Center
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer is in Carmine on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall.
Meals on Wheels
Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.
Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.
Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
