The City of Carmine is having an election on May 7 with voting at the Round Top square. It is to vote on a Proposition that reads: The reauthorization of the sales and use tax in the City of Carmine Texas at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. It also includes the State of Texas Propositions 1 and 2.

Early voting is April 25 to May 3 at the new location: 275 Ellinger Rd, La Grange, TX 78945. That office phone number is (979) 968-6563 if you have questions.

Waldeck Church Picnic

Waldeck Lutheran Church Annual Picnic is Sunday, May 22. There will be a hamburger meal, homemade ice cream, cake walk, country store, corn hole, and a bounce house/water slide. There will also be a drawing at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Meal tickets are $10 and tickets for the drawing are $20 each or three for $50. Both are available in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church office.

RT-C School News

Congratulations to the Round Top-Carmine girls track team who have moved on to the Regional Meet April 29-30 at Challenger Stadium in League City.

Regional Qualifiers are: Bayley Pitts-4x400 Relay; Daylin Pitts-4x400 Relay; Egypt Woods-4x200 Relay; Fernanda Cerda-High Jump; Ilse Salinas-100m, 200m, 4x200 Relay, Long Jump, and Triple Jump; Jill Eilers-400m and 4x400 Relay; Kennedy Flinn-400m, 800m, and High Jump; Kinsley Bage-3200m; Maggie Salinas-1600m and 3200m; Mallory Krause-4x400 Relay, 4x200 Relay, and Triple Jump; and Tess Eilers-4x200 Relay and Triple Jump. Mark your calendars for May 17, when the High School Band Spring Concert will be held at Festival Hill in Round Top at 6:30 p.m.

Carmine VFD

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is April 28 at 7 p.m.

The burn ban has been lifted for Fayette County. However, take caution if you do burn, making sure not to on windy days, which we have been having a lot of lately. Also, call the Fayette County Sheriff’s office at (979) 968-5856 to report a controlled burn to give them your name, number, and location of burn. In Washington County, call (979) 277-7373.

Condolences

Sympathy is extended to the family of Shirley Mueller, who died on April 17. She was very active at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, especially in the music program. Her funeral service was April 23 at MLLC with burial at the La Bahia Cemetery.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of Joyce Schiwart who passed away on April 17. She owned Hill Country Collectibles in Carmine for a number of years and was living in La Grange. Her service and burial were at the Carmine Cemetery on April 21.

Carmine 42 Club

The Carmine 42 Domino Club met on Wednesday, April 6 at JW’s Steakhouse. After enjoying a delicious lunch with a complementary dessert, eight games of 42 were played.

The high scoring partners were Jeanette Schoenst and Myrt Meinkowsky with a score of 1788 and they played three hands of 84. The second highest scoring partners were Marlene Waak and LaVerne Albers with a score of 1771. Also playing were Carol Naegeli and Donna Mueller. Other players were Edith Flinn and Linda Mattocks who played one hand of 84.

Everyone enjoyed the challenging games and the friendly conversations. These players look forward to the next game day on May 4 at JW’s Steakhouse.

Carmine Cemetery

The Carmine Cemetery Decoration service will be held Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery pavilion. Rev. David Tinker will lead the service.

Memorial Day Ceremony

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at the Carmine City Park.

For any veteran with Carmine connection who are buried in Fayette or Washington Counties, to be added to the roster, please call 979-278-3070.

Rebekah Group

The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met April 21 with eight members present. They were Dianna Gerland, Diana Wunderlich, Joann Ullrich, Barbara Jacob, Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, Carol Carmean, and Nancy Eilers.

Birthday celebrants recognized were Carol Carmean and Nevilee Marburger. Happy Birthday was sung for both.

Dianna Gerland facilitated the Bible study with the theme “The Kingdom of God: Looking into the future; Session four: Living forever with God.”

The business meeting was called to order by Barbara Jacob, Vice-president.

The Purpose and Mission statements were recited.

Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved as read.

The collection for A.M.E.N. donations will be held during May. We will also collect for Upbring to benefit children on Mother’s Day. Fabric Kits for Lutheran World Relief will be collected during May.

Enough Baby Care Kit items have been received for Lutheran World Relief. A $25 donation for Baby Care Kits was received. Colette Wunderlich sent a report that 20 bath towels and 136 bars of soap are needed to complete Personal Care Kits.

Diana Wunderlich reported that a group of WELCA ladies met April 19 to plan the WELCA Salad Supper. The date is Wednesday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. with the theme “Celebrate Children,” having a positive aspect on children both in our congregation and around the world. It will be a Pot Luck Salad Supper. Food more suitable for children will be provided.

Joys Baird gave the Offering Meditation.

The group sang the table prayer and closed with The Lord’s Prayer.

Hostesses were Diana Wunderlich and Joys Baird.

MLLC News

Worship Committee meets May 3 at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion observing the Fourth Sunday of Easter is at 10 a.m. Praise Team leads songs and the Noisy Offering will be received for “Water to Thrive.” The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Christian Ed and Property Committees meet after worship.

Quilting for Lutheran World Relief is Monday at 9 a.m.

Recycle Trailer

The Recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Carmine Chamber

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
