Carmine Back to School Event Coming Up

RT-C School News 

Round Top-Carmine elementary school “Back to School” night is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 8 from 5:306:30 p.m. The “High School Welcome Walk” will be on Monday, Aug. 12 from 5-6 p.m. Classes begin on Aug 14.

Teachers have work days on Aug. 5-13. Professional development days are planned for Aug. 6-12.

The policy for providing free and reduced-price meals has been announced for children at RT-C. Eligibility will be determined by income and family size. Beginning Aug. 14, letters will be distributed to households of the children in the district about eligibility benefits. Copies to apply for this program and to determine eligibility may also be picked up as either the elementary or high school campuses. For more information, call Vemonica Skaggs at (979) 966-6116.

The Round Top-Carmine ISD, in cooperation with the Burton Special Services Cooperative, will screen children who will be 3 and 4 years-old before Sept. 1, 2024 (and live in the school district) for the Early Childhood Program on Aug. 7 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the elementary school in Round Top. It is located at 608 N. Washington St. For more information contact the elementary school at (979) 966-6116.

Round Top-Carmine ISD Administrative offices are open until Aug. 3 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Winners in Schuetzen Verein Drawing 

The winners have been announced for the July drawing of the Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, also known as the Carmine Hall. Tim J. and Michael O. won the guns and Sandra B. was the winner of the gift card.

Casino Night Magic 

Casino Night Magic! will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Carmine Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. It is sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce.

RVerotti will provide a professional magic show for entertainmentA chicken-friedsteak meal, cooked by Gary, will be served.

Tables sponsorships are on sale for $500. Call or text (512) 983-1115 or (979) 451-1507 to reserve a table, which includes eight meals, beverages, wine, promotion at event, and playing chips. Individual tickets are $65 and include playing chips.

Women of the ELCA 

The Women of the ELCA Unit of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met July 11 at 1 p.m. in the Mission and Ministry Building with nine members present. They were Diana Wunderlich, Dianna Gerland, Jennifer Tinker, Nancy Eilers, Leonita Sanders, Joann Ullrich, Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, and Susan Ray.

Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with a devotion on “Value Who You Are.”

The group decided to send $100 to Katie’s Fund in honor of Linda Post Bushkofsky, who is retiring as executive director after serving for 22 years with the Women of the ELCA. The new interim director for the next 12 months will be Dr. Jennifer Hockenbery.

Birthday parties were scheduled by Sedalia Ullrich for Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on August 15; Silversage Brenham Assisted Living on Aug. 26; and Bee’s Blessing in Giddings on Nov. 5.

Quilting continues on the second Monday of the month. Fifty-two quilts are ready for Lutheran World Relief and more are expected to be ready for shipment. A quilt is almost ready for the Lutherhill Gala. Fifteen quilts are expected to be ready for Camp For All.

A new proj ect by the group is throws measuring 50x60 inches for CASA. Ten are ready to be pieced and sewn together with fleece backing. There are another ten pieces of fleece to make more.

For LWR shipping, it was decided to send $40 for truck shipping and a $100 donation to LWR. Last year’s “forgotten” shipment plus this year’s will be taken to Zionsville on Nov. 2.

School kits are being collected in July and personal care kits in October both for Lutheran World Relief.

A.M.E.N. in-gatherings were held in February and May. The May items weighed a total of 143 pounds.

Thrivent Action Team gifts are used by Colette Wunderlich and Nancy Eilers.

Mother’s Day offering was $107 and was sent to Upbring by the church office.

The annual Salad Supper was held on June 5 in the Fellowship Hall with the theme, “Give Me that Old Time Religion”, with the theme verse Jeremiah 6:16. Talks were given about church and Luther League by Diana Wunderlich; chickens and picking cotton by Sharon Rhome; canning by Joys Baird; dairy cows by Sedalia Ullrich; schools by Dianna Gerland; and music at church by Nancy Eilers. Songs were sung with Nancy as the pianist and Jennifer Tinker gave the closing prayer and benediction.

The Thankoffering Service will be held Nov. 10. The group has a tentative speaker.

A turkey, ham, and dressing meal will be served with a caterer supplying the food. Cookies will be given for desserts.

Joys Baird and Nancy Eilers will work on the 2025 yearbooks in October to be handed out in December.

A meeting for Funeral Serving Chairpersons will be held on Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Cancelled stamps are being collected for Stamps for the Wounded. Please leave a onefourth inch edge and place in the box in the Parlor.

Bold Women’s Day was observed on March 3 during the Sunday morning worship service.

Western Cluster Spring Happening was held at Waldeck on April 27 with the theme, “Who Am I.” Several ladies from MLLC attended. Jennifer Tinker did the art work on the program.

Becky Dunham is in charge of the crosses in the Fellowship Hall as an ongoing project.

The Twelfth Triennial WELCA Convention is scheduled for July, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The group decided to get information concerning moving our WELCA Group from the Brazos Cluster to the Western Cluster.

The group closed with the Lord’s Prayer and the Rebekah Group meeting followed.

MT.T.C News AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion observing the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy communion is at 10 a.m.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $ 10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

Visitors’Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Recyclilng Trailer 

The recycling trailer is in Carmine on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall.

Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please separate them. Numbers 3,4,5,6, and 7 plastics are not accepted. They do not take plastic bags.

Also accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.
