California Artist Jill Maytorena To Give Talk at ARTS
Arts for Rural Texas opened “Patterned Beauty,” an art exhibition by artist Jill Maytorena. The spectacular, unique work is on exhibit at the Ross Gallery, 114 North Live Oak St., Fayetteville. Maytorena will offer an Artist Talk on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. The event is free to the public and offers an opportunity to meet the artist, enjoy her sharing of her creative process, and have an opportunity to ask questions of the artist. Maytorena’s paintings are a complex combination of patterns and textures as diverse as her life. She discovered the power of creativity at a young age and was greatly influenced by the places she lived including England and Texas. Her family artistically guided and nurtured her creativity with art, museum experiences, and homes that were filled with crafts and textiles.
After completing a BFA in Fine Art, and an MFA in Drawing from Laguna College of Art & Design, Jill has won many awards for her paintings and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. Currently living in California, the artist has established her works in public and private collections, including the Hilbert Museum of California Art and the Laguna Art Museum.
Jill Maytorena’s portraits reveal figures who emerge through a glow of pastels and vibrant patterns. She has a unique style of capturing beauty through textural representations and forms. “Patterned Beauty” is a series of artworks which discovers the presence of patterns that are introspective and exploratory. Sewing patterns, blueprints, patterned fabrics and papers, charcoals, and soft pastels blend in collaged layers to illuminate the topography of her figurative art. Karen Vernon, Executive Director of ARTS, states, “Maytorena’s artwork is an intriguing departure between illusion and reality, a place housed in fantasy, dreams, and actuality. Her pieces are uniquely created with pigment and fibers, offering beauty and illusions of romanticism. Her skill as an artist is evident and her artistic voice sets her apart from others.” “Patterned Beauty” will be on exhibit through October 8 at the Ross Gallery in Fayetteville. The gallery is open Tues-day through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artworks are available for purchase at the gallery and through the ARTS website at https://artsforruraltexas.org/ arts-ross-gallery.
