The bridge on North Old Smithville is once again open after so many months of being closed for new construction of the bridge structure. This has been a long time coming, but the new bridge will be a lot safer and will hold up for years to come.

The construction has caused lots of issues on Boehnke Road, one of the few roads in the area that is not paved. Boehnke Road now is very beat out and wash boarded with all the traffic that diverted through that route. Those who live along Boehnke will be relieved as there will not be near as much dust raised with all the vehicles flying down the dirt road.

With the completion of the bridge on North Old Smithville Road, this rounds out the county bridge replacements in the area. This was the last of the four Muldoon area bridges that were replaced this year. Now for the rain to make the water flow under those bridges. Christmas Eve Services The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church will be holding a candlelight service on Christmas Eve. Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate the real reason of the season. This is also a time for the community to come together and enjoy some quite time before all the chaos of Christmas Day hits.

Last year’s services were beautiful and very meaningful. The services will be at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel. This is a beautiful little church and is a warm and welcoming congregation. It is a beautiful tradition to begin with your family or even if you come by yourself, it is a great way to reflect on the meaning of Christmas. This would be a great time to check out this church and maybe find a church home in the Muldoon community.

Out and About

Ron and Pam Knotts recently traveled to Lubbock to attend a Christmas concert featuring an up-and-coming musical group Black Water Draw. Ron has been following this group on YouTube for some time. The trio grew up in Lubbock and have been playing and singing together for years. Still just teenagers, they all play multiple instruments and their harmonies are unique and flawless. The group has recently moved to Nashville and have already signed a record deal and are working with major writers to create their first release. Ron and Pam were glad to see the group in person in front of their Lubbock hometown crowd. Now let’s see what the future brings for Black Water Draw. On the way home Ron and Pam stopped for the night in San Angelo and discovered a drive thru light show along the river. The three-mile route was highlighted by scenes from the 12 days of Christmas song, the nativity including Shepherds and wisemen, and a giant American flag. The perfect end to a holiday trip.

Jennifer Rightmer took off on a recent Sunday to travel to Waco for a Christmas Concert put on by the Baylor Choirs. Lane Rightmer treated her mom to the sold-out concert for her birthday. It was a beautiful concert full of moving Christmas music that was so beautifully performed that the whole experience was very moving.

Weather

Muldoon has recently seen a little rain and some really cool mornings. Lows in the twenties have greeted the early morning risers, making it hard to get out of the warm covers and start the day. It is still very dry and we are still under a burn ban. The little bit of moisture and cooler temps have not made it safe to burn. Even a “small” fire can quickly get out of hand very quickly with the vegetation already dried out from the drought.
