Bridge Closure on FM 154
The way into Flatonia just became much more difficult for those in the Muldoon area for the next six months or so. FM 154, the most direct route into Flatonia from Muldoon, now has a bridge closed just south of Old Smithville Road and north of Parker Road. The bridge is being replaced by TxDOT.
TxDOT has advised rerouting via FM 609 or Highway 95 into Flatonia. Please plan on adding more time to your schedule to go into the Flatonia area. FM 154 is a major route into Flatonia for the Muldoon area, and this will cause lots of inconvenience for many in the area. If you choose to take a backroad, note that they are narrow and already have lots of traffic and this will increase the chance of an accident.
Neighborhood Watch
Summer has begun and that means a change in the traffic pattern in the area. The kids are out of school and they might be out and about in the area. Pay attention while driving for youngsters who might be out riding bikes or maybe the teenage drivers who will be enjoying some new-found freedom.
As you drive by your neighbors’ place take a glance over to see if there maybe a strange vehicle. If there is, please call them. Make sure it is someone that is supposed to be there, especially since recently there have been reports of suspicious vehicles just driving up and checking out people’s homes and barns. If it is someone just visiting, all is good. We need to all pull together to make Muldoon a safe place. It is a small community and we need to watch out for each other.
Out and About
Kathy and Frank Chlumsky enjoyed a belated Mothers’ Day celebration with the kids. Both daughters Jennifer and Summer came in with husbands and kids in tow to celebrate their mom and enjoy some country air. Grandkids, Connor and Hunter Dung; and Olivia and Marcus Williams got to spend some quality “cousin time” together bug hunting, playing games, slip sliding, and picking vegetables. They even took a ride out to check the donkeys and go turtle spotting in the pond. Kathy made sure everyone went home with some of her wonderful garden veggies.
Devon Boehnke, Dana and Darrell Kulak and Erica Field all enjoyed a visit from Erica’s parents, Beth and Jack Field of Magnolia. They had an exciting time in the evening watching the Starlink satellites fly over. It was an interesting viewing to see all those little orbs in the sky fly over in a very straight line.
Park Clean Up
The county maintenance crew came out and did a great job of cleaning up the trees in the Muldoon Community Park at the corner of FM 154 and FM 2237. They trimmed up tree limbs and mowed, making the whole park look fantastic. Cleaning up the low limbs improved the looks so much. Be sure and let the County know how much we appreciate them making our community look so well.
Church News
Sunday mornings are abuzz at the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church. The crowd starts gathering at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and goodies to fellowship prior to the 10 a.m. worship service. If you are looking for a place to worship with a great church family drop in on any given Sunday and check out this welcoming loving church. They are located just behind the Muldoon Community Park.
Weather
Muldoon saw lots of wind and rain in the area. Rainfall amounts of around an inch and a half were reported along with some wind damage to trees. This was some much-needed moisture that helped cool down the temperatures. Much of the water from that rain was very quickly absorbed into the ground. This is a nice way to end the month of May.
Little Lending Library
As summer is upon us, if you need something to do be sure and stop by the Little Lending Library located in front of the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department. There is a wide selection of books that are always changing out. Borrow a book or leave a book. It is a great community resource.
