Boehnke Family Reunion Held in Muldoon
The Boehnke Family Reunion was held on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Muldoon Mercantile. The group gathered and got a chance for catching up laughing and just remembering all the good times.
The “wisest” in attendance was Lillie Boehnke at age of 94 years old and the youngest in attendance was Gordon Boehnke at the ripe age of 10 years old.
Everyone enjoyed a wonderful catered fried chicken meal along with the beautiful weather.
Pin Oak Cemetery
The historic Pin Oak Cemetery Association will be meeting on Saturday, Oct. 21 starting at 9 a.m. They will be doing their semiannual clean up and will have their business meeting following. They always have a potluck lunch after all the work is done and the meeting usually coincides with the lunch break. They are always looking for volunteers to help maintain this historic cemetery, picking up limbs, mowing or weed eating grass, cleaning tombstones and just general cleaning. The next clean up will not be till the spring when they meet in April.
This is a great opportunity to help preserve some of the local history and maybe learn a story or two about those who are laid to rest in Pin Oak Cemetery. The association has done a lot of work researching and preserving the history of the cemetery. It could be a nice day out in the country enjoying some wonderful company of local historians and helping make the community more beautiful.
Birthday Celebration
Nada Burns celebrated her 70th birthday at her brother and sister in law, John and Debra Schwartzenburg’s home. Coming in to help celebrate Nada’s birthday was another brother and sister in law, Irvin and Kayleen Schwartzenburg of Houston along with Lauren Schwartzenburg and Eric Prause of La Grange. They all had a really good time laughing and catching up on all the family doings.
Dana and Darrell Kulak traveled to Richmond to celebrate their great niece, Charlotte Zuhn’s second birthday. Charlotte had a cow themed party with a “cow cake” and “cow cupcakes.” She was a real “cowgirl.” Also joining in for the birthday party were: grandparents, Aril and Kenneth Pospisil and Lori and Michael Zuhn; Great Aunts and Uncles, Diana and Paul Mikulin, and Pamela and Milton Cox; Aunt Annie and Uncle Cody Zimmerman along with cousin Luke Zimmerman. Charlotte is the daughter of Jenny and Aaron Zuhn.
Mutton Busting
Nola Lee Bledsoe and her mom, Lauren Wetjen, traveled to Seguin to compete in the Mutton Busting Bonanza prelims for the Guadalupe County Fair. Nola was competing against three and four year olds for a chance to compete in the finals during the rodeo and fair.
Coming out to support Nola was her sister Haylee Schultz and her friend Jacob Smith; Nola also had her great aunts and an uncle come out to see her ride! Judy Jordan drove over from LaVernia and James and I traveled from Muldoon to see her ride. It might not have lasted long, but it was an exciting ride that Nola came away with a busted lip. She might not have done as well as she would have liked to, but Nola is ready to ride again!
Church News
The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church had a very successful revival with Pastor Dwayne Williams bringing not only the message, but some amazing music too. For those who missed it, the music was fantastic for every service.
On Friday night there was a pot luck meal that was a great sampling of local food followed by some great sing along and just wonderful listening country Christian music.
On Saturday, the church hosted a fundraiser bbq chicken lunch, auction and heifer drawing during the afternoon. The weather was perfect with the temperatures having turned off very fall like. That evening Pastor Williams once again brought some wonderful music and testimony.
The Sunday service was a great round up of the weekend. Sunday morning started with the usual fellowship at 9:30 a.m. and Pastor Williams then took over the Sunday worship service once again lifting up his musical talent as worship.
