Muldoon native Lillie Mae Boehnke recently celebrated her 94th birthday. Nephew, Devon Boehnke, along with great niece and nephews, Dana and Darrell Kulak; and Tony Miori carried Lillie Mae out for a celebratory birthday dinner at the Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg. They all enjoyed a wonderful dinner and a beautiful birthday cake made by Dana. If you see Miss Lillie Mae out and about, be sure and wish her a blessed and healthy year.

Out and About

Kathy and Frank Chlumsky had a busy weekend. Their grandkids, Olivia, Marcus, Conner and Hunter, came by for a weekend at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm. They were getting one last summer visit before school started.

Although it was extremely hot the kids had some outdoor fun catching grasshoppers to feed to the garden spiders, feeding the donkeys, exploring the great outdoors along with other great “country stuff.” The older kids got driving lessons on the side by side to highlight their trip. Conner and Hunter got to have lunch at Dairy Queen, where I got to meet them in person. Kathy and Frank enjoyed having the grandkids all together and being able to give their parents a little break before the craziness of school starts.

Nancie and Billie Blair recently enjoyed having their great nephew Jack Riddell down from the Fort Worth area. He came down to help with some projects that are going on at the Blair place. It was Jack’s first time down to Muldoon. He really enjoyed the area and helped get a lot of little jobs completed for his great aunt and uncle.

Hot and Dry

Muldoon has been very hot and very dry. One day smoke was in the air and everyone was looking for the source. It was from the fire in Kirtley and it had drifted all the way to Muldoon and caused some anxious moments for a number of residents who worry about wildfire.

Things are so dry it will not take much to set a fire off. Please take precautions when even just driving around in the dry grass. Just the smallest of spark can set off a fire. Rain is very much needed to help with the fire danger, but the dead grass that is already there will still be there and this will just lead to fire trucks getting stuck.

The drought has brought out the wildlife in search of food and water. Keep aware when driving in the area of all kinds of critters crossing the roads. Those that do not make it are quickly being scavenged by the buzzards, who are getting slower to clear the roadways and are getting hit.

School Started

School is under way and there are lots of kids who ride the buses in the area. Watch out for the loading and unloading of the buses and of the kids who ride them. The early mornings and later afternoon runs are still getting set in their routines and we all need to be aware of the precious cargo that is loading and unloading.

There are also lots of teachers in the area who teach in the Flatonia, La Grange, Waelder and surrounding schools. If you see a teacher, stop and give them a pat on the back and a thank you for all their hard work.

Lending Library

Just a reminder of the Little Lending Library that is available for anyone’s use. It is located in front of the fire station. It is a great resource for the community and the books are constantly changing. There are books for all ages to borrow. Have a book you would like to share? Leave it in the box and let someone else enjoy it too.
