The annual Bob Springer Memorial Classic Car Show will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on East Sylvan Street in Carmine. This is the southside frontage road of Hwy 290. Admission is free. Directors are David Conner and Bob Dormois. Come early to register.

Sponsors are Carmine State Bank and Carmine Economic Development Corporation. Texas Grillmates BBQ sandwiches will be available.

Blood Drive 

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Drive had a recordbreaking turn-out at the blood drive on Jan. 28 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Seventeen people donated blood with four individuals giving doubles for a credit of 21 units. Thanks to all who gave the Gift of Life. It was sponsored by MLLC and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.

Fried Chicken Fundraiser The Carmine Hall is sponsoring a fried chicken fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 18 with carry out only from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Desserts will be available for a donation supporting the scholarship fund.

Carmine C of C Texas Mixer Carmine Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Texas Mixer on Friday, Feb. 23 at Windmill Ranch Lodge, 1403 W Hwy 290, Carmine, beginning at 6 p.m. Barbecue sandwiches will be served and members are asked to bring pot-luck sides. Families are invited. The Chamber will provide drinks but BYOB is welcome.

Awards will be given to Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year. Please RSVP and confirm potluck side by text or call (979) 451-1507.

RT-C School News 

The boys’ varsity basketball team hosts Calvert on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.

Students will have an early release day of Feb. 16 when classes will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.

Feb. 19 is a school holiday for Presidents’ Day.

Carmine VFD 

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting night is Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.

Check smoke detectors to make sure the batteries are still good.

MLLC News 

Ash Wednesday worship with Holy Communion begins at 7:30 p.m. at MLLC. The Waldeck service begins at 5:45 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion, observing the First Sunday in Lent, is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion is at 10 a.m.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Domino Party is Monday at 1 p.m.

Visitors’ Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250AugsburgAve. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

Recycling Trailer 

The recycling trailer is no longer in Ledbetter. Please do not leave anything there. Those residents are asked to go to Carmine, Warrenton, or La Grange.

In Carmine on Thursdays, hours are 1-4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall.

The hours in Warrenton are 8-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and also 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturdays. That location is at 600 Huenefeld LN, Round Top, TX 78954.

Hours in La Grange are Tuesdays 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; and Saturdays 7 a.m.-1 p.m. The address there is 210 Svoboda LN, La Grange, TX 78945.

The trailer is also in Fayetteville on Tuesdays from 1-5:30 p.m.

Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles and jugs. Please separate them. Take note that Numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plastics are not accepted. They do not take plastic bags.

Also accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.
