Women of the ELCA

The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA Salad Supper and program, “Butterflies,” was held on Wednesday, June 7, at the MLLC Fellowship Hall with 34 persons attending.

Leonita Sanders, WELCA president, welcomed all the guests and then all recited the purpose statement and table prayer. Many delicious salads and desserts served buffet style were enjoyed by the guests.

The program opened with the singing of “If I Were a Butterfly” with Sunday School students, Morgan Williams, Bowen Williams and Spence Schroeder along with music leader, Mia Williams, singing and doing the motions to the song. The guests then joined in the second time of singing.

Diana Wunderlich presented her Butterfly Story. The song, “Hymn of Promise” was sung. This was followed by Diana leading a brainstorming session on freedoms that we have with the guests at each table participating.

Leonita then presented “Butterfly Freedom” as it related to the theme verse of 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says, “So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” The final song, “In Christ a New Creation” was sung. The songs were accompanied by our pianist, Kristen Holub. The closing prayer and benediction was given by Dianna Gerland.

Door prizes of various flowering plants with butterfly stakes that served as centerpieces on the guest tables were given. Lucky winners were Pearlie Wagner, Jeanette Hancock, Maydelle Copeland, Carol Carmean, Jennifer Tinker, Melba Zingelmann, Kristen Holub, Jenny Baird, Faith Stork and Spence Schroeder. All guests received favors of small butterfly stakes and “Let Love Grow-Happy Flowers” seeded butterflies with instructions on growing flowers from each butterfly.
