    Beettner Family Recognized For 100 Year Working Family Farm

On Oct. 18, 2023, a local family was recognized as a part of the Texas Family Land Heritage Program. Charles and Sandra Beettner were recognized as having a working family farm/ranch for 100 years or more.

In 1890 Herman Eichler purchased 100 acres of land from J. M. Hons in Fayette County. He is the great- great grandfather of Sandra Krause Beettner.

Receiving the honors from Sid Miller, Texas Agricultural Commissioner are Charles and Sandra Beettner, their sons, Charles Beettner, Jr and Steven Beettner and seventh generation owner Therren Beettner, son of Charles Beettner, Jr.

A barbecue catered meal was provided by Kreuz Market of Luling and Blue Bell Ice Cream was served for dessert. Red Steagall provided the entertainment. Blood Drive

A Blood Drive is scheduled for this Sunday, Nov. 19 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Carmine from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be there for your donations. You can make an appointment by contacting Khardin@giveblood.org or by logging into your established Digital Donor Account. It is sponsored by MLLC and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.

RT-C School News

A Veteran’s Day program was held on Nov. 9 at the RT-C High School.

Fall Break for the Thanksgiving holidays is Nov. 20 to 24.

The RT-C volleyball team defeated Leverett’s Chapel in three sets in the Area round of the playoffs. They were scheduled to play Chester on Nov. 7 in Splendora in the Regional Quarterfinal game.

Food Drive

The Carmine Lions Club is sponsoring a food drive for the AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange. Donations of non-perishable food may be brought to the meeting or dropped off in the box at Carmine State Bank.

Condolences

Sympathy is extended to the family of Ruth Schoenemann who passed away on Oct. 27. She lived in the Sandtown area for a number of years. She worked at Brookshire Brothers in Hearne and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She also played high school basketball at Walnut Springs. Her funeral was at Martin Luther Lutheran Church with burial in the Loewe Cemetery on Nov. 2.

Carmine VFD

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting may be canceled in November due to Thanksgiving being the fourth Thursday.

The burn ban has been lifted for Fayette County. If you plan a controlled burn, please call the Fayette County Sheriff’s office at (979) 968-5856 to give them your name, location of burn, and phone number.

Carmine 42 Domino Club The Carmine 42 Domino Club met on Nov. 1 at JW’s Steakhouse. After eating a scrumptious lunch, eight interesting games of 42 were played.

The high-scoring partners were Edith Flinn and Avalda Pohl with a score of 2165, and they played one hand of 84. The second-highest scoring partners were Jeanette Schoenst and Linda Mattocks with a score of 1726 having played one hand of 126. Partners Myrt Meinkowsky and Marlene Waak played two hands of 84. Also enjoying the games were partners LaVerne Albers and Carol Naegeli who played one hand of 84.

Everyone enjoyed the conversations and good times. These players will be ready for mores games on December 6.

Carmine Christmas Fest

Mark your calendars for the Polar Express Carmine Christmas Fest coming up on Dec. 3 at the Carmine Hall, sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce.

Over 20 vendors will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Christmas shopping.

Stew and grilled hamburgers will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for either dine-in or to-go. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Ride the Polar Express and visit with Santa from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Enjoy a musical program at 1:30 p.m., which will be presented by RT-C Elementary School students.

MLLC News

Saturday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Twenty-fifth Sunday after Pentecost is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School Christmas Program rehearsal is Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 10 a.m.

The Blood Drive is Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Domino Party is Monday at 1 p.m.

Men in Mission meet Monday at noon for lunch and will then pack the Seafarers’ boxes.

The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Visitors’ Center

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meals on Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

A new time schedule is in place for the recycling trailer.

It is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Also, there is now only an unmanned trailer in Ledbetter behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall. Please follow the rules at that location.

Accepted are clean No. 1 and No. 2 plastic (please separate them and take note that No. 5 plastics are not accepted), dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload in Carmine.
