Arts for Rural Texas will host a reception celebrating the creative voices of their talented teachers and staff from the past twenty years at a reception on February 4 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the ARTS Gorman Gallery in Schulenburg, Texas. As ARTS rolls into its 20th year of service, 2023 will be filled with multiple celebrations with the theme of “We Are Arts!” This opening event presents artwork by the teachers and staff who work so closely with the youth in the regional communities.

In 2003, a group of concerned residents of Fayetteville, recognized that art education was lacking in our rural schools. They understood that any opportunity for our children to learn about and be exposed to the visual and performing arts would only happen if the arts were brought to the local communities. They also recognized the importance of these cultural experiences, knowing how art and culture develop skills that contribute to successful adults.

What began as a handful of concerned Fayetteville artists teaching art to local children on pop-up tables on the patio outside Orsak’s Café, has evolved over the past two decades into a multi-county endeavor that has provided free arts education classes and fine arts experiences for over 25,000 children and adults in our rural region.

Two decades later, ARTS teachers and staff are still sharing their love of art and continue to take pride in not only providing arts education and fine arts experiences, but in truly enriching lives by inspiring children to build confidence and cultivate creativity. Creativity isn’t just fun, but is the source for problem solving, inventive thinking, and contributes to the natural evolution of mankind.

The ‘We Are ARTS’ Teachers and Staff 20th Anniversary Show will be on display at the ARTS Gorman Gallery in Schulenburg, from February 4th through March 11th, 2023. The gallery is located at 1201 S. Kessler in Schulenburg. This great location was once the factory for Stanzel airplanes, where the two Stanzel brothers creatively built airplanes that have been enjoyed by many generations. The facility houses classrooms and a wonderful gallery and sits next to the highly recognized dance studio, On Pointe, run by Nina Gorman.
